If/when Chelsea sign Jorgensen from Villarreal, they will have: Jorgensen, Kepa, Sanchez, Petrovic, Bettinelli I wonder if one of those names may end up here
You are not alone my friend, I don't like all the Baz Bashing on here, I get that he's made some mistakes, positioning is questionable etc but I do feel he will get better and better, unfortunately for him, GKs get punished for their mistakes, if he was a young player anywhere else on the pitch, he would be cut more slack and given more time. I think RM has done enough in his season with us that if he sees Baz as a number 1, then that's good enough for me, he's only gonna get better by playing games and he has had 2 full seasons in the Prem/Champ as well as a season at Pompey, for a keeper his age, he has gained heaps of experience already.
This is really depressing. I don’t care how good a keeper is at kicking the ball, if he can’t keep the ball out of the net he’s not a good keeper.
For a club that bases so much on stats, I am shocked that they keep hold of Baz. Statistically he was by far rage worst keeper in the Championship, the best was the excellent Rotherham keeper who went to Stoke for £1m.
I appreciate what Baz is good at. Passing. I am aware of what he is not good at. Goalkeeping. I don’t think it is any more complicated than that, really.
It's mental. It is what football has become. I was a goalkeeper, albeit in really poor local park football Saturdays and Sundays, I could play on the pitch but I wasn't very good. I played in goal because I could stop shots, had surprisingly good reflexes and was brave, as a broken arm, nose and various fingers could testify, I had many, many weaknesses but I could stop shots and dive at onrushing player's feet fairly consistently. No one said 'Dave better play in goal because he can ping a pass 50 yards right to your feet 9 times out 10'. It is mental. It will cost the club. Just my opinion and I'll happily eat crow pie should I prove to be wrong (which truth be told is likely in my experience).
I think it’s quite simple, Bazunu would be perfect for a team like City (where he was obviously spotted and coached because of his ability on the ball) but his skillset isnt what a club like Saints needs. I guess we have to hope that his shot stopping will improve with age, he has about 100 games (?) now at various levels from League 1 up which is a lot for a 22 year old goalkeeper, but this isn’t Football Manager/FIFA where you just play young players and they get better, especially at his position. Leeds are a year or two further down the line with their young promising keeper and he is still making the same mistakes and their fans seem to have accepted that he just won’t be good enough for where they want to be. People in football clearly see something in Bazunu, but in my amateur view shot stopping is not really something you can teach at this level, it’s bread and butter for keepers and if they haven’t got it by now then they never will
Nothing against Bazunu; he's still young for a Goalie, obviously experience comes with playing and he should play as he does sometimes show promise, but as a starter in the Prem? Not for me, currently. Personally, I'm hoping we give Bazunu the cup games when fit and bring in a reliable/ proven goalkeeper, even if they're expensive - they alone can easily save you 10+ points over a season, and solid performances in goal will only build confidence in the defence. Other than a striker signing a GK would be my top priority. Happy with our recruitments so far, otherwise.
McCarthy's distribution is almost as good as Bazunu's anyway. It's not like Gav is streets ahead. Macca's not as comfortable with the intricate passing around the six-yard box, but he can hit a long pass to the flanks just as well as Gav. And he is a far better at everything else. Him as number one with Baz as his understudy for the next season or two.
Sorry to much time on my hands today but Transfer Business so far:- * Squad from last season OUTS: Lyanco -£4m DCC - £3m Perraud - £3m * Rothwell * Brooks * Armstrong * Adams * Fraser Ins:- Edward’s - £3m Wood - 3m Taylor- Free Lallana - Free Harwood Bellis - £20m Downes - £18m Sugawara - £6m Received:- £10m / Spent - £50m Possible Outgoings: *KWP - £15m ABK - £10m Tall Paul - £7m *Sulumana - 10m *Alcaraz - £15m £57m Linked Incomings:- Brereton Diaz - £6m O’Rey - £20m Camara - £18m Raj - Sakhi - £12m Fraser - Free £56m If tne possible outgoings and incomings happen would that be strong enough to stay up? Think it would leave us enough money to get a decent GK in on loan ie, Ramsdale, and possibly another Striker as I could see Mara possibly leaving permanently or on loan? Would also leave a possible pathway possible for the likes of Dinling and SAA??
Maybe not but don’t think he will be part of RM plans so a loan possible but he hasn’t done enough to get £20 million plus imho? Plus I think when talking transfer fees, fans always overprice some players. Seen people saying we should get £25 million for KWP etc. Clubsa usually come to a realistic fee in the end like we did with Downes and hopefully with O’Riley, Camara etc.
I think he will be personally. If Russell plays a 3-4-1-2 Charly would do very well in the number 10 role.
KWP would have already gone if we were willing to sell for £15m - West Ham were willing to pay that but walked away because Saints wanted North of £20m.
