Ah, but as someone else-alluded... Has he had some tech-age gamma-shield device fitted to make him unbeatable whilst positioned on the edge of the centre circle? Can he play fly goalie?
We need players who’ll implement the system this season. Last season we relied on individual brilliance which we had in abundance. We need players who’ll play for the team first not their own statistics.
I mentioned Millar back in the Jan transfer thread having watched him a couple of times. He could do a job, came up through the Liverpool system I seem to remember.
I wouldn't say Jaden played for himself. What we did to make him into what he became in a short space of time was precisely that we developed the tracking and tacking back side of his game.
Seems an astute one to maybe get a couple of years from and could get a decent fee for if he fulfils potential. And he certainly has it.
Philogene putninnthebhard yards and stuck his body into challenges, a rarity for a skinny little flair player of his type.
This. The system probably relies on 11 bought in players! As much as Philo was awesome, we can recreate his contribution throughout the pitch. He was great at times, but selfish as fook at others. We move on!
This. He sometimes dwelled on it too much at times, but I think he was given license because he could do something brilliant. But out of possession he grafted. Won the ball back his fair share, if not more-so.
Didn't always have the consistency or positional discipline you'd expect from an older head perhaps? Villa wouldn't have slapped an 84m release clause on his ass if they thought he was the finished article. Although maybe with his agent they maybe just trying to put him off doing his annual European tour. Not a great look on insta. and all that.
I've mentioned Millar a few weeks ago too, another one that just makes sense. I think he played mainly from the right for PNE and he's rapid. I do think we've dropped the quality of our targets we've been looking at and starting to see breakthroughs.
If I remember right he's got a bit of sh*thousery in him too. It's a bit simplistic to say 'dropped the standard'. Though there'll possibly be a bit of that. If we don't land a marquee signing in one area, then obviously we'll work down the list for that kind of player, but that might allow us to allocate some of the funds towards a player in another area that we might not have been able to credibly approach previously. Either way, I've always expected the quality technical signings - cherries in the cake if you will are likely to be loans, and will inevitably happen later in the window.
He worked incredibly hard, not a selfish lazy player. But **** me in the final third he would make the wrong decision so much.
Can play either, but predominantly left. Saying that, if you watched the last 30 at Donny, "right" or "left" winger were very loosely allocated terms. Just "winger" would probably suffice.
It's strange you've quoted the first half of my post as the second half would indicate I don't think we are either. Toast said we were being quiet with our business to prevent others from finding out about it. This is very clearly never going to be the case.
You could potentially alert some club on the rebound though who previously wasn't on the radar, but then it's a marginal advantage at best. I guess some players probably respond better to it not being played out in public too.
Rodak is a free agent isn't he? There are plenty of free agents/loans available. Wigan for instance have already brought defenders in to replace Hughes.
