I have a point though Sgt don't I? I don't get the Sky bashing on here. It's difficult to think of a sport that could be more suited to Sky coverage.

As someone who subscribes to the basic cable package, it would cost me an extra £28 per month to get the Sky Sports package. So, with £336 in my pocket, am I better off paying for the TV coverage or going to an actual Grand Prix?

Modern F1, maybe, but not necessarily in the way you're thinking.

PLC, Sky is the most technical broadcaster, first to HD, first to 3D, reb button etc, and F1 is a technical sport. I can see why Sky have been so keen to get F1. It's a match made in heaven. The new F1 channel (a whole new channel!) will revolutionise the coverage. No more missing press conferences etc on the BBC to show the Eastenders omnibus.

Sky say they hope to get Bernie to get F1 in 3D by 2013!

I for one already have Sky Sports and the basic entertainment package that costs me 40 pound a month so will receive the channel but this is daylight robbery from Sky! Some cannot afford this even me I will have to drop some things if my salary goes down because at the moment I am just able to pay these monstrous fees!

F1 should stay free to air as well as pay to air!

It is mate I'm afraid Sky have already scrambled to make Twitter and Facebook pages on there F1 coverage and at the moment you can only receive the channel if you have sky sports with Sky - 40 pound a month or have the hd pack along with the basic package - about 30 pound a month but the hd box is not free.

They do however say they are deciding whether the channel should be on BT Vision and Virgin where you can get Sky sports much cheaper.

Quite right. Why should rip-off merchants get it. Sky: best news channel = Sky News. Sky: best newspaper = the Times. Sky: best sport TV coverage = Sky Sports

You can get Sky Sports 1 and 2 on BT Vision with every Freeview channel and the Vision + box which allows you to pause record and rewind live TV on the Freeview Channels for only £21 a month if you already have or get BT Total Broadband( which requires phone line as well)

Might consider this offer but don't know whether sky will allow BT to give people the F1 channel.

To be honest 3D is just a fad and will soon flop like a fad sooner or later, but this time stuck with a TV worth a few hundred pounds....ouch!

Just look at Japan when the BBC did its tech show, 3D is over already, now it's low power consumption even if the Tsunamia played a part to push it forward.

But my mate can AMX it which can increase the value to the TV to about 3 grand from 1 grand. If the TV needs to be sold.

Yes, News Corp is very well suited to the Formula One Group.
