Sunderland returned from their Spanish training camp on Monday and travel to Lancashire to face Blackpool in a pre-season friendly. Last time out Sunderland beat CD Eldense and Blackpool beat West Brom. Sunderland have announced the signing of Colombian international Ian Poveda. The 24-year-old attacker has signed a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light, which includes a Club option of an additional year. Poveda joins following his departure from Leeds United, who he represented in the Premier League and the Sky Bet Championship throughout a four-year spell. Poveda will join his new team-mates on Thursday morning ahead of the Club’s pre-season trip to Blackpool this weekend. Ashley Fletcher is the second signing made by Blackpool this summer after experienced forward Jordan Rhodes made a permanent move from Huddersfield Town. Blackpool have also signed midfielder Lee Evans on a two-year deal. The 29-year-old joins the Seasiders following the expiration of his contract with Portsmouth. Blackpool have signed Middlesbrough wing-back Hayden Coulson and West Bromwich Albion defender Zac Ashworth for undisclosed fees on three-year deals. Ashworth, 21, is a Wales Under-21s international and the son of sporting director Dan Ashworth. Regis le Bris: "We had many opportunities to share our ideas to train on it with many training sessions so for the first game against Nottingham I think it was interesting and for the second because the team was different maybe it was it was more difficult but at the end I'm happy at the end of this camp in Spain because we worked well and now we have two weeks to go further in our ideas with preseason.” “They trained well and this is the first ideas to push themselves to improve their physical level and then about the game model the tactical ideas we want to build I think we took many steps during this camp so now it's not enough because we know that the championship is tough and we have three weeks to build the next layers so I hope that we will continue during the first few weeks we have ahead” Neil Critchley: “Lee (Evans) unfortunately had a personal matter that he had to attend to back at home,” Critchley added. “He didn’t join us until later on out in Spain which meant he missed a few days training. So he’s just slightly behind, he’s very eager to get going and get involved in the games but we’ve just got to get the balance right between his fitness and training and then getting match minutes. “We’re hopeful Dan Grimshaw will join back in training at the end of this week and could well be available for the game against Sunderland at the weekend.” Match Appointments: No idea Team Lineups: Sunderland AFC: (4-2-3-1) Patterson, Cirkin, Alese, O'Nien, Hume, Neil, Browne, Clarke, Rigg, Roberts, Rusyn. Betting Odds: Sunderland 31/20 Blackpool 7/4 Draw 9/4 My two pence: It’s only a friendly but after another week of training RLB should have a better idea of who will start, who goes on the bench and who might leave. I'm not sure if Poveda is fit to start but we tend to let players settle into the side so I've not added him to the squad - yet. I’ve finally worked out how to log into the new web site – do they ever test usability before going live So will be watching the live stream. Live Stream: https://www.safc.com/live Ha’way the Lads
Loking forward to this, I don't think we'll see the full transition of his tactics and style until his backroom staff get here.
This is all becoming more and more interesting. Whether or not Poveda and Browne are involved they're immediately putting pressure on other players ... ... Poveda can play either side and Browne can play anywhere through the midfield. It's about time players were played in a regular position though. Last season was ridiculous, at times, with young lads like Ba, Rigg, Jobe, etc, being played all over the place ... no surprise we looked disjointed and confused. Le Bris seems to have a particular way of playing so I'm hoping he picks the right players from the start and doesn't just shuffle them around the pitch. It doesn't help the team and, in my opinion, dispirits young players.
Not only does it dispirit them...it confuses them. In my opinion, that was last season's problem....three coaching changes, too many tactical changes, too many positional changes. Stability this season under RLB,so these players know what they're doing,is a must.
Team news Dan Ballard, Jenson Seelt and Nectar Triantis will miss the game through injury, but Abdoullah Ba could return to action. Latest addition to the squad Ian Poveda could also feature, as he builds up his match fitness after joining the Club earlier this week.
Well back into the swing of it so its an automatic 5-0 to the cuddlies. Roberts, Clarke, Mayenda, Hemir and Aloiushe (spelling).
I'm with you on that one mate. Really think he can kick on here, might ultimately not be his best position out wide but if he can improve his decision making with the final ball, which is mainly down to lack of experience, and also cut out the daft yellows for asking for opponents to be booked, I think he has a lot to offer. Realy impressed by his defensive nous for such a young lad, hope he gets the backing he deserves from management and fans alike this season.
