Good to have you back on here posting @Typical part 2 I agree with everything that you say. The investors / SMT are another “a lot of talk but not much action” bunch based on their actual record of delivery so far. Our worst league finish under them last season seems to have been erased from many memories - it was a blip, they were getting their feet under the table, etc. I suspect most would have gone along with that if we had seen a dramatic improvement in our transfer activity this Summer, whereas our Summer to date can be scored as a 6/10 at best. Once again, the rhetoric has been greater than the reality under SE7 Speculators & their spivvy representatives. In a further example of the bread & circuses act, the club has released a new video on Twitter today - Andy Scott boasting about giving the portacabins a lick of paint this Summer. Funny how Scott can front up for that, but not his role in George Dobson ending up at Wrexham. As things stand, it’s looking indistinguishable from Slater & Jiminez, Duchatelet & Meire, Southall & Nimer, Sandgaard, and all the other bluffers who talked tall but delivered zilch.
Agree with almost all of that @A WUM called Hawtrey I would say though that Slater & Jiminez did at least provide Charlton with a great promotion season plus three more reasonable ones in the Championship. Granted they ran out of money, and we ended up with a big screen not working for ages plus a quarter of the pitch half underwater. And there was talk about us leaving the Valley. I don't know how much truth there was in that. But at least we saw a reasonable period of decent football under those two. Save for Lee Bowyer's heroic efforts in 2019 that led us to Wembley, there has been precious little to cheer about on the pitch since 2014.
@lardiman I am looking at SE7 Partners after 12-18 months in charge and asking, what have they done well ? League position - nope . Worst in 100 years on their watch Revenue - nope, losses the same, prices up, attendances down Bought the assets - nope Kept our best players even ? - nope . CBT, Dobson and May all allowed to leave since January. The bull sh1t & spin has undeniably been better. But as our previous 5 bull shi tter owners discovered, “jam tomorrow” buys you limitless time with the anorak fraternity, but quickly causes rank disillusionment with fans who actually want us to get out of League One. Let’s be honest - based on the pitiful levels of investment in new players, SE7’s sole strategy is to hope Nathan Jones is a miracle worker. The bookies have us at 16/1 for a reason ….
They are getting the infrastructure right. Updated the training ground. New pitch at the Valley and Sparrows lane. New appointments off the pitch. Seven decent players recruited etc. Good Manager in Nathan Jones. But it is how well we do on the pitch that the fans are interested in. Let us wait and see how well we do this Season. I was very impressed with how we played against Crystal Palace.
Unless they are run by complete incompetents or previous Charlton owners, Birmingham & Huddersfield are miles ahead of the pack in terms of budget & squad strength. We are not in the same ball park as them, I have had a look today at the respective squads. I was pleased when we signed Luke Berry 7 weeks ago but we haven’t pushed on again in any meaningful way - we have merely replaced (or so the SMT hopes) our two best players in Dobson & May. I have got less than no interest in the state of the pitch, when the current owners can’t afford to buy the Valley, or a lick of paint on the portacabins, when the current owners can’t afford to buy Sparrows Lane. I wasn’t aware that a portacabin could make a defence splitting pass, put over a decent cross, or make a match winning save. We are still miles short in all of the above.
Wrong thread. I think I am fighting a losing battle with my positive thoughts. I just can’t cope with the constant negativity, it is doing my head in. So I think it is time to keep my thoughts to myself and retire gracefully. Have a good life all, enjoy it because it is the only one you have got.
You’re not alone Dickie I feel better about this season than last , it’s natural to have ups and downs and that includes life as well as football clubs
Spot and still people on here are writing the season off …….. even when they live on foreign shores ( sounds familiar )
The only people writing off our season are the bookies. All I am saying is that the owners haven’t done enough yet this summer to strengthen our squad.
Agree , we were told NJ likes to do business early and and be fair they got a few over the line earlier than normal , we’re still missing a couple of key positions one being a decent goalie, but on the whole so far I’m quite happy with what we’ve got and there’s still time to make this a decent window
The biggest tragedy about these new lot and those previous is that they have lost so many legacy fans. I used to go with my old man in the eighties it was the best day of the week. My kids won’t be seen dead at the valley. What is there for them to see? We are no longer everyone’s second club (even mine!) we are treading water until the Valley gets sold. We no longer punch above our weight. What also makes it more unpalatable is how some foreigners on other forums can play the thickos into believing everything is gonna be alright.
We don't finish top 6 the season has been a failure, and that is not to say top 6 makes a good season.
