i haven't been since 1983. visited a mate who was at university there, we watched city draw 1-1 with oxfdutd and whitehurst had two disallowed for us. it had been a loong walk to the ground and we'd driven halfway. plod wasn't happy to let us depart from their forced march back to the railway station but were eventually persuaded by my keys fitting a nearby car and my mate having a students union card with his oxford address on it.

he got cancered at the age of about 43 and his brother got alked out at 40, the one that died at 43 was a good cricketer at school and you'd have backed him for a half century. probably smoking that got him.

Off up to Filey tomorrow, where is best to park? @Chazz Rheinhold, I’m sure you said you go there often (or at least more often than me) what do you recommend for kids (5 and 2) to do?

There is a bird and animal park just outside Filey the 2 youngsters may enjoy. https://www.fileybirdgarden.com/

Ingram’s always used to be the best for fish and chips. Haven’t been for a while though.

I used to go to Nigeria a lot and took quinine tablets which tasted of tonic, so gave those up and went onto gin and tonics. Never got malaria, either.

Currently in Port Mulgrave, sounds exotic but is about 20 minutes north of Whitby, although the views are cracking as we’re in a cottage on the cliff top overlooking the sea.
We’re here with three of our Grandkids aged 7, 4 and 3. I do wonder why I let myself get talked into these things. You need the patience of a saint and the negotiating skills of Henry Kissinger!
Taking them to Flamingo Land today, £162 for the 5 of us, including the youngest being free because he’s only 3. Daylight robbery.
We’ve been to Saltburn, Whitby a couple of times and did a bit of boating at Ruswarp.
Thankfully at these ages it doesn’t take too much to keep them amused for the day, which is just as well, as if you had to go somewhere like Flamingo every day you’d be bankrupt.
We’ve been very lucky with the weather this week considering the summer we’ve had though.
Roll on September and a peaceful week in Lake Garda!

I presume they will still allow you to, but take some packing up, snacks and drinks with you.
A other con they have is that the parks are so big but only open 10.00 till 18.00 so you don't have time to see and do everything, and the kids want to go again.

Most likely the Yanks with a few of ours, we’ve been sailing from Cyprus to Gaza to help deliver aid and building the pier.
