Minutes with the new rotations , mistakes made and how to avoid them - Pandur for example wasn't camped out on the centre circle from the last game.... Adjudicating who amongst the reserves look decent up against seasoned pros. Familiarity in how the new regime want to structure a match day, and just getting them into a Saturday Tuesday cycle.

    To pick out the obvious...

I think we have to be realistic on the main XI workload. Also it gave a number a chance to make their claim for a spot in the squad of which maybe 2 half claimed.

They’re currently the bench for the opener so they need to be fit too…

I've said Tinsdale and Hall from that game. But I fully expect both are gonna go on loan if we get offers that will help them.

Maybe Grant will take a couple?

Walter declared himself pleased with the arrival of Cody Drameh from Leeds United earlier on Tuesday but admitted the lack of depth and quality in his squad need to be dramatically improved if he's going to have the Tigers challenging at the top end of the Championship when the season gets going in just over two weeks.

"It's just a friendly," he told Hull Live. "It's to test and not more, so that's the reason why we start in this case like that. We have a game on Saturday (against Newcastle) and now it's a new game. We came back from Turkey, I think we did a good job in Turkey, especially the two games we worked hard.

"So that's maybe the points we take out of the trip to Turkey and now it was a game for the youngsters and that's fine to see them, how far they are (away), but what they need for the upcoming future, and that's what we saw.

"Yes, (some of the youngsters are not quite at the level) that's what we saw and for everybody who is here or on the TV. They saw that we need more numbers and that's the point, because, yes, to step into the Championship and to secure our goals, that's not possible with that squad at the moment.

"We keep going because I'm the coach, I'm the gaffer, and it's the only way I can do and the rest is up to the management."

it would ruin atmosphere at some games with zero or very few fans travelling to watch their b team especially if the first team had an attractive fixture.

It happens once a pre season. We played a B team against scunny under Grant, a b team at Cambridge under Shota, a B team at scunny last season now a B team today. It’s fairly standard procedure, every season people act like these things are out of the ordinary and a reflection of what’s to come when in reality it means **** all

Ashbee did well when called upon in the FA cup last season, do think he’s third behind those 2. Vaughan looked like a competition winner this eve. Let’s hope his pay rise wasn’t too ridiculous

Liam used him is a structure that took a lot of the 1v1 away from him - ie the grownups made and gave him space.

Anyone can look like a young George best when they're coddled - but at the time was a necessity 'cos everyone else was injured.

He's had a good start but he needs to make his own way.

I agree with your post though Chazz. It’s more than patience now. Walter needs chance to give new players time to adapt so we aren’t playing catch up. It might’ve worked last season but we had a core that would’ve stayed up.

If we don't get players soon, B team will be A team for first league game.

If we end the season that we start it with, it'll be the first time in recent history.

But I agree generally, we need Oscar, and another 2 or 3 in and training before the last preseason game.

Then 6 or 7 before the end of the window at minimum.

I can’t believe most seem to just accept that its ok to run a squad down to its bare bones and sign a load of players at the last minute. It’s a massive ****ing gamble and **** management.

We've seen an example of that tonight. But the expectation was well publicised as Gona be a second string for the majority.

I think the numbers you mention are the realistic hopes. In reality we need more in before season starts. Theres still time as well to get 4 or 5 before August 10th. If there’s deals that need a bit of TLC to push over the line then do it. Similar to last season how Acun claims the Doncaster loss led him to pushing harder for Jaden.

It was coming this. I’m not upset ultimately in a vacuum about tonight because it was what it was. But that to me was a cry for help from Walter and I’d be pissed if we lost him due to poor leadership. Not only because he seems like a decent coach but having to change everything after a sacking or resignation could be curtains

If the squad didn't need to be run down then it wouldn't have been.

How much deadwood were we carrying?

What? That isn't what I said or even alluded to.

Our structure in non-league is a vast web of local and regional leagues that become more nationalised the higher you go. At the very bottom, there's little to no travel needed because, obviously, teams don't have loads of money to spend getting around.

In the system I would like to see, no teams would be replaced, the bottom tier of non-league divisions would just be larger to accommodate teams entering B teams into those leagues. Some may need to add extra tiers or split the leagues into smaller ones for a season.

So, nothing would have happened to us when we were at the foot of Division Four because Division Four, or League Two, isn't non-league. And as I said already, the teams wouldn't be allowed to be promoted past the highest regional division for our area, which in our case is the Northern Premier League.

If its obvious it needed such a cull then we should have done our business early.
