That’s my hope, Ashbee and Hall the only ones who looked close. Football has changed in recent years with a number of freak talent teenagers breaking through and it’s skewed peoples view of what genuine development paths look like for teenagers. Most of the lads at the start were playing their 1st senior start in terms of opposition.

They quite simply have to pull their fingers out now before the season. But tonight quite literally has no reflection on the season as most of these lads won’t play a minute for us

Hall and tinsdale. I didn't think Ashbee played well personally.

That said, the whole side was youthful that first 60 and that's a bit different to stepping in alongside experience.

I don’t understand why we’d organise pre season friendly and play a load of kids. I think we should tell the fans in advance, then they can decide from there if they want to waste their time and money

And those who paid to watch it on Tigers+.
The team that took the field representing Hull City for the first hour must have been the weakest side we have ever put out against league oppositon in our history, friendly or no friendly.
The worrying thing is some of that squad may be called upon in a couple of weeks time.
Even when Walter made wholesale changes, at four nil down, Donny still created the better chances.
Not impressed with the goalkeeper either and I can see why Rosenior wouldn't play him but I cannot see why Acun thought he should have done?
The squad looks seriously understrength all over.
Donny fans must be deleriously happy tonight thinking they have tonked a Championship team.
On that showing we are nowhere near a Championship team.

Ashbee was very good on the ball, constantly looking to go forward, took it under pressure a number of times and didn’t lose it. Only thing was the 2nd goal that he struggled, Smith was much worse. Ashbee is only 17 and looked miles more comfortable than Smith

It was pretty well reported via Baz and mike white that it was expected to be a youthful side.

Did you expect Pandur to be superman because that’s what he’d have to have been to stop the finishes from Donny tonight bar maybe the first?

I think it was the Fenerbahçe friendly that was the unwelcome addition.

Think Smith is better than he showed tonight, but I agree he didn't play well.

Donny’s finishing was very good… made a cracking save just before the 4th.

Did he fill you with confidence between the sticks? He was one of the reasons Acun gave for sacking Rosenior. And we paid, allegedly, £1.5m for him? Yet Darlow went to Leeds for £500k and sat on the bench all season.
So no, I dont expect Pandur to be superman, just a capable goalkeeper, both of Donnys keepers looked more confident then he did even though they had next to nothing to do.

So it could have been played 2, conceded 10.

    Problem solved.

Well, in a conversation about that happening over here, it isn't irrelevant is it?

The system we have now for youth players and young professionals doesn't work. The ones that progress better tend to be the ones that go out on loan further down the leagues. The ones that are wanted by higher level clubs can still go there, but it means the ones staying back aren't just playing the stiffs of Wigan, Fleetwood and Crewe, they're playing men's football in a competitive environment with something at stake. As shown tonight, a lot of the young lads looked way out of their depth and Doncaster are two divisions below us, so for there to be a 4-0 scoreline with zero shots on target with that team tells me that they need to play at a much lower level to gain experience.

In my humble opinion, the current set up does our young players a huge disservice and given that most of our released youth players end up playing further down the non-league pyramid anyway, it would give our coaches a chance to see who is progressing and who isn't going to make it, a call that can be made much earlier than it currently is.

....but I guess, with the senior squad being so thin, we and Walter maybe hoped a few of them might be good enough / ready to play some part, but to me they all looked miles off. Every one of them, including Simons. Not sure what you saw in Ashbee, he' might be a good prospect but currently he's nowhere near (maybe look again at their goals and some other chances). Tinsdale looked lively but again nowhere near yet. Disappointing viewing.

I mean aside from the first against Fenerbache Ernie he’s been hung out to dry by what’s in front of him…

Doncaster's keepers didn't have reserve and youth players in front of them constantly bricking it and passing the ball back, they had senior pros in there so it's no wonder they looked confident. Pandur immediately looked more assured when the first team players came on.

I liked what I saw positionally and in possession for the most part after the changes. Haven't seen him make a save I wouldn't expect him to yet though, but it's early days.
