the problem is with both of our relegations, we didn’t act our size. Instead we modelled ourselves on the crap we were up against. Finances probably dictated that.

Birmingham seem to be spending money actually well

They'll probably have a more joined-up plan than our scattergun approach as well.

Their fans are in for a shock.

League One is horrid and the big clubs struggle, as we know too well.

I think you’re right but the big clubs don’t normally spend well like they are

Darmstadt conceded any amounts of goals last season they got twatted pretty much every week. Interesting to see how Birmingham get on because they’re throwing some money at it and they’re massive favourites but we all know how minging that league is. Reality check for some big egos no doubt.

You’d think Birmingham will be throwing serious wages around as well if players are going from Bundesliga to the third tier here.

I hope they completely fail this season, but I can’t see it.

I expect them to win the league, who are their genuine contenders?

He does look like a good signing. Not sure what it says about German football or the salaries Birmingham are offering. Potentially disastrous if it doesn’t bring immediate promotion and will mean they already have an expensive squad even if they come back up.

I love that we don't overpay wages to get players to come here anymore. There's not the excitement of bringing in flashy / bigger name players but give me our young and talented squad any day.

I think they'll have a really good chance of getting out of League One at the first go, spending big is a risk for obvious reasons but it's also a proven way of getting out of that division fast, we sort of slinked along under the previous regime and ended up spending four years there, in fairness we did have a go when we signed Grigg but that burn meant we lived off frees, loans and nominal fees for a couple of seasons.

I have a bit of a soft spot for them tbh. My old boss/second dad, his lads are massive fans and he died last year with a funeral in Brum colours. Great family. I really wanted them to turn it around last and hope this comes good and they have a better year.

Definitely. Not that I've got a problem with Birmingham, I just hate the hoy cash solution. It's moronic. Don't hoy a mansion up but skip the foundations.

Also, why do we all think that success is crucial. Playing in the prem is a must. I just wanna enjoy my local team with as many local players as possible. A decent standard, no VAR, no risk of going bankrupt.

Hoying money at things ain't for the fans, it's for the owners to try and maximise their personal profit

Ask Preston fans if they’re happy knowing they’ll be finishing somewhere between 8-18th yet again this season :emoticon-0102-bigsm

That’s just football unfortunately and if you aren’t in to try and be successful then what’s the point? Nobody is going to spend money if there’s nothing at the end of it to aim for.

There's very little chance of success tbh, you're right.

Newcastle haven't won anything worthwhile since 1955 and almost went bankrupt trying. Now they're owned by the Saudi state they have more chance but it hasn't worked out too well so far and things are looking looking edgy again.

I'm like.you, happy to see us win in style and lose the same way,

nowt against brum and hope it does not go wrong for them, our problem was mainly the finance side, nee pot to pittle in so we know just how bad it can get.

i honestly think we are starting to see a 'new breed' of owner, men/women with enough money to throw into a club if they want (and they know they will have to put in to keep a club going) but wanting to get it all sustainable with wages starting to drop (more so if a wage cap comes in), looking for younger players who will not only help them for a season or so but are likely to get a decent transfer from them...we have been a good example of that over the past couple of seasons.

a lot of fans are turning away from the premiership, getting away from the ref and var bias, 'big money player' favouritism, of course the money is there but it is less of any real type of competition and the efl is pretty much back to the blood and guts football and much more enjoyable.

That's it. I want to see us win but not at the cost of the club's future financial health. We've done the blindly throwing money about and it didn't even get us very far. The exciting achievements were few and far between compared to the huge wages and transfer fees.

Like WorkyTicket says, the game is about success as well as entertainment. I'd like us to get a slam dunk / we're one of the best teams in the championship-promotion rather than just getting lucky. Get promoted when we are ready.*

Then we can go into PL with strong foundations and keep building from there.

    * Believing that and having enough patience is tricky, mind!

I don’t think it’s the owner being cautious, I think it’s the rules. The number of posters who say KLD tightest billionaire ever’ etc when the EFL would remove points if he blew it
