Border Force takes Channel migrants to France for first time as Starmer seeks Europe returns deal

Officials hopeful that unprecedented move signals closer cooperation on stopping small boat crossings

Just goes to show Starmers negotiation skills?

Wasn't it because they were in difficulty in French waters, and French ask for there help?

The one and only thing that will help ...

... much harder work than firing off headline grabbing statements and schemes.

Tories loved a "flagship" scheme no matter how effective it was or how much it cost the taxpayer. One of their "flagship" schemes to get the unemployed "into work" was actually less effective than just leaving the unemployed to their own devices. Public Accounts Committee actually said it was "worse than doing nothing" :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Appreciate you have me on ignore because you judge me a tory. However, I reserve the right to respond to your one sided team based approach.

Starmer has had more slogans than Heinz varieties. "Smash the gangs" is relevant here. He will be judged in time, as he says himself he cant be judged after 2 weeks and that is absolutely right. I bet he doesnt smash the gangs, but I hope I am wrong. You would hope a lawyer of such emminence knows he is spouting nonsense in such a claim, gangs of this size are never beaten down fully.

I have found the first two weeks of the Labour govt refreshing, albeit it is the so called homeymoon period. It is noticeable how his language has moderated a bit since he took his role. Again, no problem and I have been encouraged. If we are for ever to compare what he does versus what the tories did, and have such a low bar, then it is a bit pathetic for me. I do not like this version of the Labour party and their politics, but I want them to have 2 terms to make a difference. I just want them to be forward looking and not blame attributing. It would mark Starmer as a very different sort of politician and I would be delighted to have my doubts proven wrong.

Pathetic reason to get put on ignore! He put me on ignore because he didn't believe that Marie Antoinette didn't say "let them eat cake", even when I posted links to actual historians saying she didn't.

I agree with this. It’s early but I’m impressed with the calm ethical efficiency. Gently tackling big issues like Gaza in a cerebral way and despite me valuing green priorities the Labour methods feel more credible. The Tories made to look thoroughly idiotic already, Long may it continue.

It's ridiculous that some of the current ministers will soon have been in office longer than their recent predecessors ...

... Starmer only has to last 36 more days to be there longer than Liz Truss.

Continually changing ministers has been both responsible for the chaos and a consequence of it.

Ten Education Secretaries, since they were elected, is ludicrous.

22% payrise for Junior doctors lol. Hasn’t even been a month and they’ve surrendered yet apparently there’s a huge “black hole”. Absolutely spineless, going to be a rough few years.

As a doctor in training you’ll earn a basic salary, plus pay for any hours over 40 per week, a 37 per cent enhancement for working nights, a weekend allowance for any work at the weekend, an availability allowance if you are required to be available on-call, and other potential pay premia.

In Foundation training, you will earn a basic salary of £32,398 to £37,303 (from 1st April, 2023).

Not really a huge wage for a junior doctor at the minute is it?

Both rises combined means a doctor starting foundation training in the NHS will see their base pay increase to £36,600, compared to around £32,400 before this offer was made. A full-time doctor entering specialty training will see their basic pay rise to over £49,900 from around £43,900 before this offer was made.

That’s before shift allowance by the way, so throw on another 35%. Just under £50k a year before you even add in weekends or overtime, whilst on foundation training is a ****e wage mind.

They just need to claw back some of the money the likes of Michelle Mone blatantly stole from the government. That should pay for a big lump of it

Wouldn't worry about that, they’re just taking it from the pocket of pensioners.

It was never going to be an easy fix and I assumed a few tough years still to come with some harsh realities of the state of the country.

I also always thought the books would be way worse than the conservatives have been reporting, but a £21bn black hole is staggering even by their standards.
