Balls. Just seen that Pavlidis signed for Benfica for €18m with €2m in add-ons on 1st July (can't help but think that's quite a good deal). Think he would have been great for us. https://www.instagram.com/transfer.futbol/p/C843KEDvdCJ/
No real evidence he is premier league standard. He isn’t exactly prolific in the SPL. Could put that down to his team but we’d need to be really confident of his attributes that said - we aren’t going to be signing any striker with a prolific record in a top league. Or probably even a league a tier down. So it’s all going to be on potential
The EPL would certainly be a step up, and I really don`t know if he`d cut it. Last season his work rate and physicality improved greatly. He`s a better finisher than anything Saints have at present (including Che). I`d take a punt on him - he`d wouldn`t be expensive by EPL standards, maybe £5-6M.
With Che leaving we will need 2 new strikers. He sounds like he would be a good replacement for Che at a reasonable fee too. Wages will be low too. Then spend big for our main striker (or utilise a loan if the right player is available).
I hope we are getting two but I am not sure we will. I think Stewart will be counted as one of those.
That would be worrying. Considering Armstrong now seems to be used out wide, going into the season with just a new striker, Stewart & Mara would be setting up to go down.
Exactly how our management and accountants have budgeted for it to work so as to not jeopardise our actual budget and survival chances
I agree - but I just expect it to be the case. Not least because I don’t fancy our chances of recruiting a striker to sit on the bench most of the season. It’s not really something in the wheelhouse of a club like ours. Even Spurs couldn’t do it when they desperately needed backup for Kane The idea that someone like Miovski would move from playing football to the shot of cracking a premier league team when he could just move somewhere where he could get a starting spot and a pay rise is optimistic unfortunately. As always we’d perhaps need versatile players who can play in other positions to be able to manage it
It's a bit different to the Kane situation. With Kane you know you will never start over him, regardless of how well you do (unless you suddenly become the best striker in the world). Similar to City not being able to keep Alvarez happy as they would never drop Haaland. But at Saints, we won't ever get a striker so good that he is nailed on to start every week that is just undroppable.
