Obviously, with Southgate walking away, there is lots of talk about who the next man should be. Howes and Potter seem to be the hot favourites, and ridiculous shouts for Sarina Wiegman too. However, the FA should be going all out to try and get Klopp. I don't think Jürgen would take the job but the FA should be throwing everything they have at trying to persuade him imo.
Klopp would be a great choice and would certainly get more out of the team. Under different circumstances, I'd have maybe been in favour but I think he deserves a rest. Taking on any other football coaching job so soon, wouldn't sit right with me. I'm sure in a few years he will be looking to get back in the game and could probably be enticed by the Germany job but unless and until that happens, I want him to have a long well earned rest away from anything football related.
Klopp gets the job, then Kane is done for. Klopp needs forwards that can run and press, not someone who is constantly getting in the way of the midfield.
They probably felt obligated to put one player from England there since England reached the final... that was the last spot they got to and had an "oh ****, we don't have anyone from the other finalists yet" moment.
That's what I thought too. It opens up a conversation about not needing the best players in order to win a competition but the right tactics and arguably, right mentality. Had we won, would the team of the tournament looked any different? Or .... possibly the first team of the tournament with no tournament winners making the cut.
Walker being in there is just plain daft, but it highlights just how poor England have been throughout this tournament that no England player really deserves to be included.
If anyone from England was to be picked, it probably should have been Pickford. Look I don't like the ****er, but he was probably Englands best player this summer and they've picked Maignan, who I honestly wasn't all that impressed with. (frankly France shouldn't have any players picked, they were worse than England)
Pickford was an alright shot stopper but his distribution was woeful. Also remember him being almost on the halfway line and but for an off target shot, the opposition player would have lobbed him .
Pickford underperformed his xg int he tournament. Think England xg was something like 4 and he conceded 5. I’m not sure where this rhetoric that Pickford had a great tournament comes from. He didn’t make any brilliant game changing saves? His distribution was horrendous - he went long way more than any other keeper and often without success handing the ball back to opposition. Thought he was really poor. Think Saka was prob our best player and that was mainly from 2/3 games where he had an impact.
I'd agree. Most of the stuff was right at him and tbh a lot of playing to the supporters and time wasting and such. It's the usual about the pens even though he's a shocker of a pen keeper who's just got a bottle with guesses to do and he dives early. Anyone waiting for him to drop slots it the other way. He's a bang average keeper I think the criticisms saka was oot when he was being made to play rb on a back 5 in effect. The main thing was really a straight jacket that prevented players playing their best until they were behind
I thought he made several decent saves and was pretty good with claiming balls into the box and anticipating breakaways. His distribution was terrible though.
There wasn't one catch that any run of tje mull keeper shouldn't be making and not one wow save, all fairly routine. Can you share an example for me to look at of a save that he made in the tournament that's a wow? Everyone now knows to just go the opposite side that you usually do and just delay your kick and he will fall down out of your way
Our best player was clearly Kane; playing four position at once without it affecting his game at all is quite the achievement
Rumours from Germany, Klopp has ruled himself out. Now there's a big surprise Proper pipe dream, just like Pep. Be prepared for Lampard to take over.
Not sure you can say that. In order for it to make sense, it would have to have been tested. Mito's point was - now that everyone ie the players, know that Pickford has a 'cheap code' on his water bottle with which way to dive, they'll just go to the opposite side.
Thing is england is the type of job it used to be. It’s not the pinnacle for managers. Used to be your jump at chance to leave club and go manage England but no one is going to manage them above top half prem side. Can’t see anyone leaving a club fighting for europe to manage England as just not worth it.
