Never really understand that, that's just a commentator's bulls*it view that they seem to use mainly for Utd year in year out when it comes to the final push for the title. Teams win the league/ finish above others because:
A) They're squad of players are better and have been fit throughout the season
B) They're form has got them to that position

The past season(s) plays no part what-so-ever in helping you in the current season.

Currently there's no reason why we can't have some bragging rights over you, THIS season, we beat you 2-1 and in fairness we could have had a couple more (thanks Ade, Scotty and Bale!!! Lol). On that basis alone we're surely entitled to give some stick/ banter/ however you want to put it. Ofcourse you guys overall have been the best team in North London over recent seasons, no Spurs fan can deny it, the facts speak for themselves and I certainly can't/ won't argue with that but I just don't understand why people (this isn't a personal dig, it goes to everyone - Spurs and non-Spurs) seem to use the past as a means of glorifying their club and using it as a foundation to say they're currently better blah blah blah.
Man City are the best team in the country at the moment - fact. Utd/ Chelsea/ 'Pool/ You guys/ and even us can say to them "but what have you won over the past 50 years/ past few seasons" but it means jack sh*t now. I'm just trying to get across the fact that personally, I find using the past to back up the present pointless, perhaps many may disagree and they're well in their rights to do so but I'd rather use this season alone to judge teams.

Fair play pal, can't argue with that. Though for the record, I haven't stated we'll definitely finish above Arsenal, though I do believe this season could be quite successful for us as I believe for the first time in ages, we have better team/ squad than both you and Chelsea. But time will tell and come the end of 90 minutes on matchday 38 we'll find out <ok>

Oh is that what it's called? Many thanks :)

Is that the same experience that saw you annihilated by Man City 6-1 at home though?

If I remember correctly, Fergie blamed the experienced players (Rio and Evra I think) for the reason the scoreline was so high.

They smashed us 5-1 at home too... Reason being - They were better/ finished their chances, just like you did against Arsenal.

Experience in football is way overrated. You win because you play better than the oppostion and because generally, you have the better/ best squad.

If City do eventually win the league, will they say it was "experience" that was a major factor in winning? No.

Utd have generally had the best team over the past 20 odd years, yet when Chelsea's millions came onto the scene - they eventually took the title off you, why? They had a better team. You regained the championship eventually back off them, why? You had a better team. City are now leading the league and playing great football, why? I'll leave that for anyone else to answer.

I would say that the manager's and players' experience counts for a lot - the former decides the selection and tactics and the latter actually have to deliver on the pitch. But I don't think that history (eg Arsenal have won the premier league and Spurs have not) really affects anything.

The experience argument seems a little irrelevant here, as Arsenal have lost a number of their experienced players.
Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy followed others out the door and two of those that they followed have ended up at WHL.

Szczęsny, Mertesacker, Santos, Arteta and others have gained little or no experience of Arsenal's top four finishes, for example.

Jayram,in answer to your yet again repeated(how many times now?) statement about finishing higher than Spurs I thought I would bring it closer to home by bringing it head to head. Also we have been in transition with a new manager(relatively) whereas you have been stable with Arsene for a long time now. But it hasn't taken us long to catch up has it? So it won't take us long with the right coach to overtake you to be where we once were and that was above you. I thought I would bring it on to this thread rather than that other bloody stupid load of crap that's going on in the other one.

Now I know this states the CL tonight but I thought I'd use it for the matches this evening. Arsenal v City and Chelsea v Liverpool. I'm going for Liverpool again but as for the other I don't have a clue. What a difficult match to try and predict the outcome. Will they play the top players or second string? Totally at a loss for this one.

City have a big squad and Mancini said earlier that he will be taking advantage of it tonight and Wenger also said key players will be rested but it will be a competitive side that he puts out so expect a few of the regulars from him.

Yes Schteffen that' was my confusion. They are two of the top names in English football at the moment so does Wenger rest his top players against a powerful name like City? Thanks for clearing it up.

You can go back to calling it the Mickey Mouse Cup then, Mrs C.
That's what everyone does, isn't it?

Yeah, the Europa League is a benefit so long as we play reserves, and a liability the moment we play the regulars. But the farther we go, the greater the temptation will be to play the regulars. I'd wait at least until the semifinals, maybe even the finals, and maybe not even then (though it would be very unlikely to win the semifinals playing reserves.)

I don't think City will win by 2 clear goals Mrs C. The closer the match approaches the more I think an Arsenal win.

Couldn't beat Ross Turnbull.
I could beat Ross Turnbull.
He's awful.

Why is Carroll, a player whose confidence is shot, taking a high pressure penalty?
Bellamy would've buried it.

I asked Spurs or Sex what Carroll's strengths are after his post about Liverpool should play to his strengths. Good in the air and a good left peg to me isn't enough to play for Liverpool. I don't know what they saw in him and thank goodness we didn't buy him. S or S made a good point about selling him would only fetch half of what he cost. I think Liverpool have a huge problem.

Well, judging by the 1st half I am a little more confident, but we all know how managers can change things dramatically during the break. If it is still 0-0 10 minutes into the 2nd half I might start to believe. Quite impressed with Oxo Cube & Frimpingpong so far :)

Nasri is getting 10x the stick we gave Ade when he returned to play against us. I think it's because Nasri broke our hearts more than Ade, although the diehards will never admit it.

Nah, it's because nobody likes Nasri.
Ever.
Seriously, look it up.
He's upset virtually everyone he's ever met, as far as I can see.
