The recently publicised Rolls Royce modular Nuclear reactors are supposed to be a lot safer with less waste
At least that’s my understanding ?
Solar is only any good for a few hours a day and panels have to replaced every few years, wind power only works when the wind blows
Surely wave (water) power should seriously be considered ?
The River Severn has the second highest tide in the world for instance

The possibility of a Severn Barrage was looked at during the Thatcher years.
Of course it was deemed too expensive - plus the French offered to build the second Severn crossing as long as they retained ownership.
    Maggie bit their hands off
Again - short term view instead of looking into the future.

the severn barrage is a little bit more complicated than just building a "dam with paddles! " the geology / ecology and approach's and the width. It would need to be quite wide to maximise return of KW's. ECOLOGY the mud flats would be seriously compromised! the flow out rate would be different to flow in?? [my thought calculation! ] Cost would be recoverable over a greater number of years than other forms!

Another thought was if the volumne coming in is restricted then would it need to "spread out" before it gets to the "dam" .. like river Avon takes greater volumne?

hopefully this will be the only "attempt".
Trump didnt seem to phased by it? ... and will likely play along with it?
probably have bullet proof screens around them when they hold next rallies?

So a immigrant chops up two British gay men who allowed him to stay in their home

You wonder why people do not want these people here and certainly not in their homes.

bullet points from Racheal Reeves Sunday interview analysis..........

Rachel Reeves' favourite chess move is the Sicilian Defence.
It's an opening move designed to open up the board for later in the game - and one the chancellor used often as a junior chess champion. It's “particularly good when you want to go on the attack," she suggests.

In her first speech as chancellor, Reeves was stressing to investors that Labour was willing to use its landslide election majority to take politically controversial steps that would not have been possible under even a stable version of the previous government.
With her first announcements, she wants to convey an optimistic path for the UK that is attractive to investors.

She has already said she will be tough on adhering to rules designed to limit borrowing for day-to-day spending.
Currently, Reeves would need to make some very tough choices, potentially cutting spending on councils, prisons and courts and raising some taxes to do this.
This will come to a head in an autumn Budget and Spending Review.

When pushed on whether she can really deliver a step-change to housebuilding, infrastructure and energy investment, while her government continues cuts to public investment planned by the Conservatives, Reeves is defiant.

For example, Labour says it will deliver 1.5 million new homes over this parliament, but what will it do if housebuilders ask which construction workers will build such homes?
The question is: what is Reeves prepared to sacrifice in order to meet Labour’s “number one” growth mission?

So RaRe [ used this as Racheals initials as dont want to confuse with our own RR!!! ] is a chess player and compares chancellor job to chess game! All or most chess players knows that the game employs stratedgy that involves sacrifice and stalemate and swapping 1 for another to gain or eliminate advantage..... this seems to be sacrifice is public spending for growth!
We are soon to be swamped by a few 000's of early released prisoners which will allow .gov to say "the cost of the prison authorities has been reduced and overcrowding sorted" manifesto pledge!!
Rwanda they can now say " we have saved £?,000.000's by cancelling it" ...really deterrent gone and cost to house in hotels will accelerate! LOCAL AUTHORITIES WILL GET MORE TO HOUSE AT EXPENSE OF BRITISH CITIZENS!

SO FAR SO GOOD THEN ............ 2 manifesto pledges pushed into different boxes! THE next argument will be " we cant stop the boat crossings just like that, need to get things in place over the next 2 years and will just need to absorb the the influx...... !"

I hope you never need hospital care, as most of the people that will care for you are immigrants. Of course there are bad ones, but don’t judge them all on the worst examples. There been many horrible crimes perpetrated by home grown white Brits, that doesn’t mean the rest of us are evil or serial killers does it.

It’s only going to get worse
The prison crisis could be solved if we deported the 10,400 foreign nationals in our jails rather than letting people out who have only served 40% of their sentence !

a number, wont say a lot come from a cultural background where killing has been an everyday event for centuries... you can trace it back to the slave trade years and beyond! Tribalism! slave traders on one side of the coin were responsible for saving many lives!! ... how come? .. well... it was different tribes that had issues with other tribes [ instead of killing them in battle would capture them ] then brought them to the coast to be sold for "trinkets" ! OK a great many died on voyage to the America's [ bear in mind we dont hear, today, much about the South American ones!! 100's of 000's ]. Until these countries become civilised and can live in peace we will not get any results of harmony and goodwill

Will this be Labours biggest screw up? the courts unable to deal with masses of reoffenders ... police overstretched by catching and investigating .... another "smoke and mirrors" .. need more police ... need bigger prisons! ... shift the onus!

The Government were quick enough to build the Nightingale hospitals for Covid
What about not building a million new homes and using the Greenbelt to boot, but building Prisons as quickly ?
Liberal iidealogy to let people out that early
Hope it bites them in the rear

It’s not ideal, but they’re between a rock and a hard place due to the incompetence of the previous government. The Timpson guy is a really good appointment though, as a non politician he’s going to do things on a non party political basis.

I like what I’ve heard about John ? Timpson
He sounds like a really good employer to work for with some of his novel ideas
Given the Timpsons staff have a previous criminal record

He certainly seems to know what he’s talking about. Hopefully we can move away from being a political football. I like this type of approach

I’m not sure locking up petty criminals, for instance, is the right approach. It’s very expensive to keep people in prison, they do their time, it’s a great opportunity for “networking” with other criminals. They just reoffend on release, just for the cycle to continue. Someone like Timpson who’s worked with ex offenders, given them the opportunity to have proper jobs on release and the chance to end the “cycle “ and therefore saving the taxpayer money as we’ll certainly seems worth a try.

HEADS OR TAILS ... THIS OR THAT ...... CHICKEN OR EGG! ...
There NEEDS to be a deterrent. Today you see it all to regularly "you will get 6 years, do only 3 if you are good" so a criminal does a crime knowing he could sentenced to 6 years but out in 3 so facing 3 years locked up .. free meals TV, a gym and other comforts! ...
MAYBE THE RULES SHOULD BE CHANGED TO START WITH! Crime = 6 years so you either do 6 or 3 or ? more than 3. Get out after 3 so 3 years kept as if you reoffend gets added to next sentence so re offends .. does a different crime or tariff say 8 years so out in 4 | BUT NEED TO ADD TO ADD 3! so release in 7! but now owe 4 years! this applies to all crimes minor or major do a crime like serious motoring offence get 3 years so be good for 18 months ...BUT 4 years owed! .............and 18 CARRIED OVER ETC.

    A self imposed deterrent!

shop lifting nick £199 of goods and dont go to jail! nick £200 and police involved ..worst scenario is you banned from shop for nicking less than or more than £200 is that a deterrent [ could be if over "£200" and sent to jail! ]

It’s fine for petty criminals but in reality petty criminals don’t get custodial sentences. They probably should for things like repeated shoplifting which has become an epidemics over the last couple of years and is costing us all dearly, as prices are inflated to cover the shops and supermarkets losses which isn’t fair on the law abiding
There has to be a proper deterrent and from what I’ve seen of the inside of prisons the inmates have a life of riley
I also don’t want to see violent criminals or sex offenders released early
