And Keane said no. Which, considering his own comments on the partners of players not wanting to move out of London and the south east is very hypocritical of him don’t you think?

I don't get the Keane adoration tbh, he says things for effect more than as a true analysis.

Then again I'm the same with Brian Clough, I found his interviews cringeworthy tbh.

It's all very performative isn't it.

I have to say I like the mythology behind Clough but I'm too young to feel the affection a lot of our fans do for him, not a particularly big fan of how he came across as a bloke.

I agree about his interviews. He came across as very pompous in a lot of them. Although I don’t think there is a Sunderland supporter who didn’t wish he had his success as a manager with us.

I meant the short not understanding teams finishing bottom.got relegated. I agree with him asking Keane why he was travelling and only turning up a few days a week, I thought you didn't but it's clear from your comments you do and it was tongue in cheek!

I don't think we would have been any better off if he stayed.

Aye, I would have hated him here, winning all those titles, league cups and European cups. Such a shallow twat he was:emoticon-0136-giggl

I’m only going off The Damned United, which I know is hardly an historically accurate documentary, but didn’t the Leeds players rebel against him?

Didn't he turn up and tell them to throw their medals away because they didn't deserve them given how they had played to win them.

    Lunatic.

Or Brighton, but that wasn't my point.

I was comparing his attitude and patter to Keane.

Clough would do what Tony Pulis did later.

They'd start an argument with some journalist from the local paper who knew he couldn't answer back or isolate a player have a go at them ...

... that worked with the young lads and 'has beens' at Forest and Derby but when he tried it with 11 hard bitten internationals, at Leeds, they weren't having it.

Roy Keane was demonstrably the best manager we've had since he left - promotion from the championship and he then kept us up... (excluding Regis, who clearly hasn't had a chance to prove himself). Absolute legend, and in my opinion the best, most entertaining pundit on the current circuit.

I think he is a terrible pundit and completely hypocritical with it. He comments on international teams and players in terms of not showing heart or commitment or bravery. All the things he didnt show when he quit on his National side before a major tournament. At least they had the balls to get on the pitch, he didnt.

I hope le Bris gets onto our poor attempt at playing out from the back at goal kicks, it’s so pathetic.

Fair enough, although I think you're completely wide of the mark, mate. If you had to list 3 things that characterized Roy Keane heart, commitment and bravery would likely be most peoples top 3. If the Saipan incident highlighted some flaws in Keane it would be stubbornness, exacting standards and a short fuse. If you accept his account, it was a shambles and they weren't taking it as seriously as he was...I'd argue it takes more 'balls' to make a stand than just go along with something you find unacceptable. He's clearly very proud of being Irish and his international career, evidenced by him also taking the asst. manager job many years later.

Also, if he was as 'terrible' a pundit as you suggest, I doubt he would continue to be paid the many, many millions he is raking in. Most people, evidently, chime with him.
