Walker daydreaming? I think you need to watch it again. Walker went in to cover the attacker in the central position who was the immediate danger because the rest of the defence got pulled out of position.
Shaw was class 1st half, but got caught in no mans land for the 1st goal and Yamal had several chances in the 2nd half due to poor positional play by Shaw Hats off to Shaw tho as he was unreal 1st half - hasnt started since feb n you could tell it caught up with him in the 2nd half Just my opinion anyway
Saka should have been hauled off after 30 mins Walker was hung out to dry by him Bellingham is the best attacking midfielder in the world and he gets played left half Baffling
Yep their first goal onwards he looked shot, but looked good first half, Mainoo is going to be our best player but looked like a boy tonight in a part of the field we needed to be stronger. Kane was the biggest mistake though. Didn’t deserve his place tonight and we all knew it.
He didn’t need to cover him though he was running in on the shoulder of Stones (I think it was)?? Walker should’ve stayed closer to Williams
Probably a watershed moment for a few England players - time to build a team around Mainoo, Palmer, Guehi, Watkins, Jude, Foden & Saka. Likely time for a new manager too
Yeah mainoo was poor but what a talent he is, got everything to be an elite CM Kane was a problem for England in this comp, if hes starting he needs wingers thatll run beyond a defence. He cant have the likes of foden n Bellingham in behind him. I thought bellingham was poor after the 1st game Theres zero balance to this England team, thats why they havent put a performance in for a full match. England are a real sticky team undef Southgate, hes made them hard to beat but theres no patterns of play when they have the ball and hes loyal to a fault at times Still a young team tho so likely to be one of the faves for the world cup
In all honesty if England had scored a second and won the game ... ... they'd have been the luckiest, dullest team to have ever won a tournament. England have had some great individual moments but not once a 15 minute spell of good football in the entire competition. We wouldn't have been admired by anyone if we'd lifted the trophy, not even ourselves imo.
Stones had lost him because they all moved over when Shaw was caught out. Easy to say in hindsight that Walker should have stayed with Williams, but if he had done that, the pass would have been made to the central player who would have had an even better opportunity to score. Walker did the right thing. Every decent right back in the world would have done the same.
As painful as it is to say it, you are absolutely right. The best team did win. I thought Williams Jr was the best player on the field. Maybe I’m being very biased but Pickford despite the goals also played well. Kane should retire from international football now.
I think it's time for Southgate to step down. Truly thank him for his time in charge, best English teams in my lifetime have came under him, 2 finals, a semi final and a quarter final is nothing to be sniffed at considering what came before him. He has played a massive part in the success but it's time to pass the torch.
'Physically its been tough for kane' - why start him all the time tho, thats what the issue is I do feel sorry for southgate tho, seems a top top bloke but from an England point of view he had to change his starting line up a bit more during this comp
It goes to show how important Sterling was to Kane over the past few tournaments. His work rate and running was exactly what we were missing. I was saying to the lads Mainoo should have come straight off after the 1st goal.
Kane wasn’t fit the whole tournament and lost us momentum. That’s not his fault, a magnificent 9 the best in Englands history. Having the bollocks to not start him, and bringing him in for 30-40 minute cameos may have helped, but then we a better side with Watkins or any off the shoulder.
