They aren’t signing Philogene. Delap hasn’t proven himself in the championship really. Szmodics has had one good championship season. Albeit a very good one where he was top scorer. It’s interesting how things can be interpreted when it comes to players who some think we should have in for / were beaten too.
Yes that’s why I said Targets and Signings. And I wasn’t comparing players who we should or shouldn’t be in for, just saying they obviously have a different strategy to us. Time will tell how it works out
Do they have a different strategy though? I’ve definitely seen mutterings that our signings are to benefit us should we become a yo-yo club next season. And I’m not sure how Ipswich’s are much different. Seems like the same strategy so far. I guess it’s down to whether people think their football league signings are more likely to make the step up than ours.
Not sure if it’s been mentioned here or any other thread but according to Romano, Celtic are in talks to sign Kaspar Schmeichel… surely worth trying to tempt a keeper with such experience and quality…. Would like to think we’d be able to match anything Celtic are offering….
I’d say there is quite a lot of 2nd choice keepers out there who would be a potential upgrade. I’m sure Russ has already made up his mind, but it would be good to see Lis have a decent chance in pre-season.
This would be an incredible move. Could make the difference between relegation and staying up. Can’t see it happening though, McCarthy has probably earned his place and golden boy will get the gloves when he’s fit.
Centre mid and a striker are slightly higher priorities for me as things stand, but we have two loan slots available and getting a keeper on loan makes the most sense.
Martin talking about Downes 'Hopefully, before the end of the summer, he will be in a Southampton shirt,' said Martin. 'If he's not, I will cry myself to sleep. It will take more time. We just have to be patient. I wanted him here last week, four weeks ago even. 'I hope, that at some point, we will show enough love and give West Ham enough money [for him].'
That last sentence could be taken any which way. Either we are being stingy/really are that hard up on FFP or West Ham are overpricing a player that they don’t want and has barely any PL experience. Probably a bit of both. In normal circumstances you’d just say pay the extra few million because he’s so important for us. BUT, we have so much work still to do on the team, can we afford to overspend on any one player!?
More deals between Everton and Villa incoming then, Onana moving to Villa for £50m Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all interested in Murillo who Forest are valuing at £70m. They don’t need to sell after other deals now and are compliant with FFP
Who even is Murillo? I feel like I should have at least heard of him despite not closely following the premier league last year if he is apparently valued at £70m
