They have been dismissed so far due to performance or a lack of one.

Hemir looked like he couldn't be arsed for senior and u21 football. RLB likes his forwards to press so that will continue to rule Hemir out.

Mayenda was a shot in the dark. Hardly played a handful of senior mens football. Got loaned out and couldn't make the Hibs starting squad.

We need better than both to have a successful season.

A lot of the forward player recruitment has been a shot in the dark.....you could add Jewi,Mundle and Rusyn to these two lads. On long contracts too.
To improve our front line is this window's huge challenge.

Absolutely. It's less about numbers and youth prospects but more ready made or experienced. It's going to require dosh. Add all the fees up on we have I would have rather we had 1 or 2 more experienced players.

I'm sure they aren't complete shots in the dark. There will be underlying data we don't see which will be a massive factor in who they sign, obviously a risk signing someone from a poor league and who has never played in the champ but don't think it's fair to call it a shot in the dark

The squad forward positions are full of youth and development prospects, some of whom who are being asked to play before they're ready owing to the lack of alternatives. A couple of proper oven ready front players is the priority now if we're not to have another stagnated season.

I'm sure you're right....there will have been data and info which has led us to sign them. But,they're prospects for the future,no more than that,so to expect them to contribute at first team level is a risk.....even a gamble.

Don't know what to make of some of the club comments from the talk in yesterday. Could well be playing it down regarding the striker situation. ? Hope so as we all know there'll be a struggle to score goals. Last seasons goals F and A made all the difference really when looking at the table. Not many teams conceded less than us ? 6 teams ? Just didn't score enough.
Is it money yet again. ? Can't be considering the Stewart cash ? Plenty time although it would be good news to get a striker in soon. Maybe RLB has some contacts ?

Troy Parrott just signed for Az Alkmaar for 8 million euros. That shows how hard it is to find a CF because he's not worth that much but prices are just crazy.

One good season and he goes for 8million.

Just shows how sparse the 'proven goalscorer' market is.

What comments regarding the striker situation?

Make sure you read actual quotes rather than the agenda ridden interpretations that are flying around.

I don't think fee is that inflated. Will be performance add ons. Same as Simms. Get what you pay for most of the time. We spent more on Rusyn, Hemir, Mundle, Mayenda.

Sadly, neither have a future at Sunderland in my opinion.
I'm sure that both of them will have no trouble at all finding a new club, but I can't see either of them being signed by any club higher than League 1.

Best of luck to them both if they do move on.

They have been dismissed and that may be harsh given age and experience but I can only go on what I’ve seen.

Hemir, in his albeit, limited opportunities did nothing to suggest he was the answer. his performances were at best lethargic and at worst seemingly completely disinterested.

mayenda came in in one home game was unlucky not to score, was shipped off to hibs and couldn’t get off their bench.

Lots of mitigating factors, young, new country, how do you get better if you don’t play etc etc

I really hope both improve and become good players for us but atm it feels like they are a million miles away from even being in the squad.

main part in that tweet….AZ re-investing money from a player sale.

everyone is doing it and we won’t be an exception, if we want to spend similar money to what simms and parrot have gone for we will need to sell a ‘big’ player

maybe we should have taken the Hemir, mundle, Hjelde and Rusyn money and spent it on one striker but we didn’t

Yeah. I don't think that fee is that inflated. It will include a load of add ons like Simms. Simms was like 3m up front. Nowt that for a championship striker. We need to get with the going rate or keep on having a season with a striker that isn't ready.

The fact we are even talking about selling an 18 year for 20m surely says it all about the undoubted potential of Jobe. He tailed off at times last season but he's very good and only going to get better. I see him as an 8 as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Ipswoch look to offload broadhead. They are spending lots of cash and might deem him surplus to requirements. Is he good enough for Prem? Not sure and they've just signed delay for 20m

It's whether they are willing to make that type of loss without a sale

It's not easy getting strikers to score 15 goals or more. When you look at the top 10 scorers in the Championship last season, 6 of them were out and out strikers:

    Adam Armstrong - 21 goals - signed for £15m
Jamie Vardy - 18 goals - signed for pennies, but he is/was a PL player
    Haji Wright - 16 goals - £9m
    Josh Sargent - 16 goals - £9.5m
    Emmanuel Latte Lath - 16 goals - £5.5m
    Che Adams - 15 goals - £15m
