I know it’s talksport but surely we don’t claim KWP at 25m with only one year on his contract. But I also can’t see us valuing Downes at much lower than £15m. Only reason this would make sense is if we do have a £20m+ offer from someone else. Which I don’t see being the case because that would surely only be spurs or maybe Arsenal.
Its a hard one to judge - KWP is a proven PL player in his prime, but Downes has the extra years on his contract. I would say KWP is worth more even on his last year, but not £10m more.
I think the situation is more: we would happily keep KWP for his last year. You lot aren’t really going to play Downes. We will sign Downes for 15 million if you let us but we aren’t selling KWP cheap?
It does feel like West Ham haven’t even considered the option that we could just let KWP leave on a free next year and we are desperate to sell him this summer. Maybe we definitely don’t want him going on a free and are looking to sell, I’d suggest if he does go on a free he’ll end up somewhere other than West Ham so I guess it depends on how much they want him
It also depends on who else is interested in Downes and KWP. If KWP has many suitors and Downes doesn’t then £10m sounds reasonable. If we have other potential targets for CDM then fair enough hold out for it. If there’s nobody but Downes lined up and KWP is leaving anyway then we would be silly to hold out for 10m.
It seems like the assumption is that we have a gentleman’s agreement with him to let him go. And they presumably know he has interest in joining. So I guess assume that he would be upset if it fell through. Not sure how true that is in this case though
Ultimately he will probably get more money if he left on a free, obviously running the risk that he has a terrible year or big injury and misses out on a move next season. Also a high chance that Saints are going to have a bad year so harder for him to look good in a struggling side which might be playing into it. There was very little talk of teams being interested in him last summer from memory and that may have been to do with the relegation season and KWP not having a good season
Villa activating some buy back clause for Philogene. So his options look like Villa, Ipswich or Everton. Not seen Saints linked for awhile, but that goes for any winger I think. Clarke was the other one but gone quiet on that one aswell. If we are struggling financially or just FFP wise then wouldn’t mind seeing if we can do some Stewart + cash offer for Clarke
Rumour we’ve put in a contract bid for Guido Rodriguez Left Betis this summer and was expected to sign for Barcelona, who have since pulled out Defensive midfielder who is over 30
I see this Guido Rodriguez has come out of no where, wonder if the club are looking at alternates for Downes.
Argentinian called Guido, what could go wrong? On a more serious note he is a solid player, I watch a fair bit of Betis as my preferred Spanish side and he is decent enough, would be a good addition. I thought he had already agreed to join Barca though
So did the other guy we were linked with apparently - Lamine Camara. So that is interesting. I assume Barca only have so many spaces. And are one of the few clubs who can get away with pulling out of a deal last minute and not have their recruitment power impacted
Well Rodriguez is different as he is out of contract and they don’t have the same rules in Spain about domestic signings 1 month before contract ends I believe. I’m sure I read he had agreed to join Barca on a free a couple of months ago, maybe it wasn’t a 100% done deal
