Good Morning. It's Tuesday 10th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Gladbach plead poverty in pursuit of wantaway star

Borussia Monchengladbach have told their West Yorkshire counterparts that €10-12m
(£8.4m - £10.1m) is too much for Max Wober's services, but would gladly accept him on loan again!

Wober 26, spent last season with the Bundesliga outfit, featuring 26 times for them. According to the stats on 'Whoscored', the Austrian International was their second best player, with an average rating of 6.84.

If recent transfer activity in Seville (Real Betis) is anything to go by, perhaps Gladbach are expecting Leeds to fold like a cheap deck of cards (again)? Sky Sports Germany correspondent Florian Plettenberg is adamant that Wober does not wish to return to Leeds even though he's got three more years on his contract, but should that limit Leeds options?

Wober proved to be one of better Leeds players (which doesn't say a lot) during the latter parts of their 22/23 campaign. Similarly, he showed his worth last season in the Bundesliga. Asking circa £9m is not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, so why do Leeds make such heavy weather of it?

Leeds United are currently demanding around €10-12m for a sale of Maximilian Wober! This is too much for @borussia. M‘gladbach would like to keep Wober but could only do so with another loan. The 26 y/o central defender is informed about that. The clear trend is that Wober will leave Leeds United. Contract valid until 2027."

Do we need another quality centre-back

Leeds fans stand divided as to whether the club need to invest in another centre-back following the departure of Charlie Cresswell, and free agent Liam Cooper being the subject of interest from Birmingham and Hull City!

Daniel Farke can fall back on Ethan Ampadu, who proved more than capable, alongside Joe Rodon in central defence after Pascal Struijk got injured. It may have been a seamless modification to our defensive line, but did it weaken our midfield? Gruev and Kamara 'did a job' in midfield, but let's be honest, if either or both were moved on, and were replaced, would we lose any sleep?

The gaffer obviously didn't rate either Cresswell or Cooper; you can tell by the number of times they came on to replace tired legs. Perhaps, if Farke were to bring in stronger squad players, he'll be more likelfy to use them, and we won't get to the scenario that we were in several months ago when they ran out of steam! Do the Whites need to splash the cash on another centre-back?

    Leeds alerted to Kent availability

Long time target Ryan Kent could become a Leeds player this Summer, after news that the 27yo is due to leave Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

The Whites have been chasing Kent ever since his youth days at Anfield. They narrowly missed out on his signature during the Summer of 2018, shortly after Bielsa took the reigns, but opted to join Rangers (initially on loan) instead, making the deal permanent a year later.

Twelve month on, Leeds made an audacious £10m bid for the former England youth player, but Rangers refused to relent. As time went on, his form began to slip, and he ended up at Fenerbahce on a free transfer last Summer, six months before the expiry of his contract.

Twelve months into his four contract, he's ready to return to blighty. He made seven substitute appearances and just one league start for the Super Lig club. He's unlikely to cost much, if anything at all. If he comes good, he could be the bargain of the Summer, but is he worth the risk?

Messi v Jesse ends in Argentina win. We’re denied the dream Copa final of Bielsa v Marsch.

3rd place playoff may produce a better match though.

    Morning all :emoticon-0128-hi:

Unpalatable though it may be, I guess the club are waiting to see whether Wober and Kristensen are reintegrated or sold before making any decisions on signing more defenders. They are both full internationals and, like Ristac (I think) said, if they were new signings we would be excited. With the sale of Archie, we can hold out for the price we want and replace as required without unbalancing the books or the squad. Hopefully no last minute shock exits that aren’t already planned for (in terms of immediate replacements) will do for me.

If everyone is fit, the squad as it stands looks like it should be competitive, especially as the first team should be pretty much the same. If getting some of the fringe players off the books now allows us to make some astute additions, for example O’Hare as a free transfer then I think we will be in pretty good shape.

We’ve been through about six managers and have a whole new recruitment team since his name was first mentioned, surely they can’t all still want him.

Yep, if Borussia Monchengladbach haven’t got the money then the club should tell them and Wober the deal won’t happen, we’re not a charity. Either they find the money, he finds another club that afford the fee or he stays here as he’s under contract and makes the best of it be that working hard for the first team or with the U21s. Same message to Gnonto, I’m fed up with the tail wagging the dog.

    Morning all

We should not loan out Wober either use him and he could be the difference in promotion or not, or sell him for the fee we want. If we keep Wober any two from Struijk, Wober, Rodon and in an emergency Ampadu. We must be approaching time now where we do the same as we did with Gnonto, tell certain players to knuckle down and get on with it, we have a promotion charge to get on with

Do we know if he’s back yet (or due back) or if Farke has spoken with him?

49ers have transferred ownership of Elland Road back to the football club.

1st time the 'club' has owned it in 20 years.

    That's a major signing.

They could have done this months ago, so hoping that this isn’t going to be softening us up for lack of signings…..

So the 49ers have transferred the ownership of the ground back to the football club, which is also owned by the 49ers.

Well..... That's jolly decent of them <laugh>
