I guess so, think Benjo has put it pretty well. We’ve over doubled our investment on essentially a loan… they clearly had long term plans for him hence the buy back clause. They were reluctant to let him go in the first place so I doubt we had much of a choice if we were to land him… this is the reality of shopping in this market versus bargain shopping

This sounds right not sure we made any money on him though so not sure Fenerbache got a penny?

In line with the fire sale and to keep costs down further they've switched airlines...

Absolutely... but if we can repeat the deal done for Philogene twice over this summer on the same terms, I'd be happy...Just keep on 'moving the chains'...

Yeah exactly so it was on the profit otherwise we'd have paid them 50% of whatever we sold him for, on top of the original transfer fee

It hurts a little to lose such a chunk of expected money but you would easily do the deal again to get players of that calibre, hopefully there are more around the corner. It was a shock when we signed him and I guess it's agreeing to that kind of thing that allowed us to.

You really think that Philo will want to go back to Villa ? After they farmed him out to us ? I severely doubt it

Depends how much is in it for him! And I mean in every scenario, back to villa...or to be sold on immediately.

If they've matched our fee, surely that would include selling fees and clauses as they're very much part of the deal?

And whether he goes direct or via villa exercising their buyback, the sellon is still 30%.

I suspect the advantage for villa might be some sort of FFP workaround.

After his flying start with us, hasn’t he scored 2 goals since dec 22 (both with City and then after)?

Today's meltdown appears to be "City are **** because I forgot there was a sell-on clause for Philogene". Absolute kindergarten stuff.

I'd be very surprised if a price match clause included any add-ons in future contracts with other clubs.

Of course i have absolutely no idea I'm just speculating to avoid worrying about the semi.

In the link I posted earlier, I read it as Villa need to match any bid we receive over and above £15m if we are in the pl……we aren’t in the pl so that clause isn’t active. So I’m not sure why Villa need to buy him to then loan out.
They will get there % come what may

Im sure Tan said they would still be able to match any fee we were offered, just the pre arranged 15m buyback fee was only active in the same division.

If I understand what you’re saying then they haven’t got any advantage while we are in the championship. Anyone could match what we are offered, then jaden decides

It was an incredible piece of business by us at the time, and still is ...just maybe not quite as incredible as we thought, but still incredible. We've had a player of Philogenes quality for a season and made a big profit. What's not to like about that? Seriously.
