Tottenham or Liverpool - Who would you choose?

Had a bit of a heated debate last night with my mate about Spurs and Liverpool.

He reckons that if Liverpool came in for any of our players then they would definitely leave Spurs as Liverpool are a much bigger club.

My argument was that if Spurs and Liverpool went in for the same player and offered the same money then most players would choose Spurs over Liverpool as we are higher in the league and have a better squad.

I agree Liverpool are a bigger club and have a better reputation globally and the history in their favour etc but am I deluded in thinking players would choose Spurs over Liverpool (if wages were the same) these days?

Not really, you lot are on fire at the min. You are looking promising but, what happens if Harry gets the England job? Or things dont go well for him in court next year?

Depends on who you are looking at getting I suppose though. If we were both going after, let's say, Llorente since we have both been linked with him in the past, who do you think he would choose?

 

If wages were the same; No, probably not. However, at the moment they do pay far more than we do. You would hope that other considerations would take precedence foe some players; such as, will I fit into their squad, will I be on the bench?, or a regular starter, etc. Unfortunately, money seems to be the main motivating factor for a lot of players - not to mention, their ever increasingly greedy agents!

 

Liverpool are a bigger club? On what basis?
* Two seasons without Champion's League football
* One season without any European football and
* They can't stop Chelsea signing their main assets
* Paying vastly over the odds for average players
* Getting stuffed 4-0 at White Hart Lane

None of these make them a "bigger" club than Spurs. They make them a little bit "bigger" than Everton.

 

Liverpool every time

 

I think it would prob come down to who would pay the most in wage's especially with foreign player's but no doubt you are in great form at the moment, the second best team in the prem at the moment imo.

 

Glad we could help kickstart that form for them as well Not going to lie, wouldn't mind seeing us two in the CL spots with Arsenal, Chelsea, or United behind us. Would be real sweet.

This is a tricky question as you have signed your fair share of foreigners as well and didn't VDV say something of the interest of Tottenham led him there ( as well as CL of course) and we didn't really push it out to get him?

think about this as the player.... all they care about is

1. how much money
2. is champions leaue assured
3. how much money
4. are they in for glory (winning things)

now people are saying the money is identical. that means only two things actually matter TODAY.

I'll use adebayor as an example. Ol ade wasn't exactly happy real didn't want him but lo and behold the moment spurs are looking good for the CL he starts talking about making the laon permenant.

Now i'll use modric. he wanted to go to utd, not for money but for the CL.

now torres... exactly the same story, juping at CL and trophies..... one might say meireles is the same.

so lets be frank and ignore pissing contests. the player speople are talking about want to be in the big time and they will jump ship ANYWHERE they see a better chance of grabbing quick glory.

any spurs fan who doesn't fear what will occur with VDV, modric and bale this summer if spurs don't make 4th.... 5th = you'll see the point is true.

 

I believe that Spurs were heavily linked with Joe Cole, Craig Bellamy and Charlie Adam in the Summer, but Joe'd rather pick up big wages and play in the CL in France and Charlie and Craig chose Liverpool.

Doesn't look like Spurs have the pulling power in the head-to-head analysis.

 

I dont think a Spurs player would move to Liverpool unless Spurs didnt get CL and Liverpool did.If Spurs and Liverpool were goin for a player and they both had CL footy they would go to Liverpool as they are the bigger club

Regards why are Liverpool bigger, .....................erm perhaps its somethin to do with the fact Liverpool have probably NOT EXAGGERATING, more than TEN times the world wide fan base Tottenham has, thats before you even mention the trophy count.Liverpool probably has more fans worldwide , if you take Man Utd out of the equation, than all the the rest of the premier league put together

If I'm honest I think a 'non-European' player who had little knowledge of the EPL would choose Liverpool because they're probably one of the only clubs they know from England. But any educated player would of course choose Spurs, no contest.

 

You believe, but don't know. Where would Joe Cole fit in for us? He left Liverpool to get some games, he'd hardly swap that for sitting on our bench.
