Have I missed something? There seems to be a lot on here about over 30’s? Is there a new ruling that excludes them from FFP, squad numbers or what? Never seen this board soo exited!?
Him and Downes together would be interesting. Rumours are that Barca after him though? Suspect he might choose Barca over us...

There was/is a discussion about the definition of a 'n' year old. For instance, if your 30th birthday was yesterday, are you 30 today, or over 30? In simple (simple?) terms, your first year of life is from birth until you are one year old. So this ought to mean that the day after your first birthday, you are over one year old. Continuing this logic, as soon as you have your 30th birthday, you are over 30. How should a club define the ages of its players? By calling them (eg) 30, or over 30? It would be an interesting legal discussion, as a teenager celebrating his 17th birthday is then in his 18th year, so does this entitle him to buy alcohol in a pub, or to vote? Or, as is the case now, do they have to wait until their 18th birthday, when they enter their 19th year of life? Alternatively, the discussion was about something else entirely, and I've missed the point (again)
In your example, at one you are over one year old and then for birthdays you switch to ordinal numbers for some reason for turning 17. Sticking with your first approach, you are over 18 as soon as you turn 18. In the second you are in your 19th year as soon as you turn 18. Both are correct and in no way contradict each other.
Can we get a separate thread for age chat I guess the biggest positive takeaway is that we are looking at deeper midfielders not named Flynn Downes. Whether we will sign 2 (which we definitely need) or just 1 remains to be seen. I guess it could be seen as a negative by all the pessimists that we are looking at deeper midfielders because the Downes deal is dead
In a footballing context, though, players play for the U21’s when they are over 21. Until they are (over) 22 in fact. You know it makes sense.
If he's not going to play much of a role in Martins system I'd rather we cash in on him now and use the money on players that will improve the first team. I really liked Alcaraz, but we have a lot of imrpovements to make and seemingly not a lot of money to spend.
