When my argument is based around what happens next - against teams who can finish - it isn't a strange argument. They should have scored 1.5 goals and we should have scored 0.5. They stopped us getting into the box. They blocked 8 of out of our 13 shots. They had more shots. They should have scored more goals. Sorry, but by every measure they had the better of the game. Except penalties.
Officially we had 13 shots. They had 11. Same number on target. I'm struggling to remember either keeper making a decent save.
Pickford had to make 2 in the last 5 minutes. And the offical shots include 8 blocked efforts - so we had 5 shots on or off target by the old measures.
Only top save that springs to my mind is Sommer tipping the long distance shot from Rice around the post.
The stats are pretty even, most marginally in England's favour. It was a tight game, both sides had good spells. A draw was a fair result but someone had to lose.
This is so biased. They skied 3 shots with the defenders on the floor. We didn't have a single clear cut chance in the whole game.
I think Switzerland are a great example of an okay team being very well managed. We're a great example of a team with huge potential being...umm...stifled a little bit (if I'm being kind).
You are biased with your anti-England agenda. It was a tight game. Switzerland are a bloody good side. England were much better today then the previous few games and they had to be. Switzerland did not dominate the game.
Oh I know, I was thinking that during the game. Just pointing out the only good save that I can think of in the game. Switzerland kept us comfortably at arms length for most of the game, hence all the long shots form us, and they found space attacking us, but a mixture of good last ditch defending and poor finishing from Switzerland helped us out. Overall an fairly even game I thought, but that’s not to say it was a good game or that England played well.
I don't have an anti-England agenda. I want us to win and I am happy we did. But you are deluded if you think they didn't have the better of that game. Look at the shot map I posted. The big circles in the box are all Switzerland. I don't remember us having a shot inside the box in the last 3 matches that wasn't an overhead kick! And I never said Switzerland dominated. I said they had the better of the game.
We won that game according to the rules laid out before the tournament and we had no control over the draw and had to play who was in front of us, so some need to lighten up. We are in a xxxxxxx semifinal! We have been more exciting in the past and not won a thing since 1966. Though it would be tough on our nerves, I don’t care if we bore the way to lifting the trophy. Haven’t got many years left for it to happen.
I'm sorry but I think some are undervaluing Switzerland. They disposed of Italy really easily and nearly beat the Germans.
I think they outplayed us. They defended better. The attacked more incisively. They are a solid team. We are a superb team managed by Homer Simpson.
