In unbelievable shape playing in Abu Dhabi. Jones has just been released from Bankrupt Wigan, so looks like he’s trying his best to jump on board aswell and earn some oil money. Fair play to them both.
The club as a whole sunk low. Max Power may not have been a great player in the big scheme of things but I think he came across as a genuine and decent bloke who understood his responsibility to SAFC and the fans.
Having abs doesn't necessarily make you a good footballer. But yes if they want to play in Saudi for a few extra quid fair play to them. I'm sure they will tell their grandkids about the great games they played out there
This is what I don’t get. Sunderland were a League 1 side going nowhere. All this stuff that people used to post about us being the oppositions cup final was just utter twaddle imo. We got big crowds for that league but that was as far as our ‘bigness’ went. It was a travesty that SAFC were in that position in the first place but they were. On the pitch we were nothing special and we would still be nothing special if Donald and Methven were still in charge. Thankfully KLD came along and pulled us out of the clarts we were deeply mired in. We may have bought one or two decent players, but that was nothing to do with good scouting and quite a lot to do with luck. The vast majority of our players then were has-beens and never-was generally recruited by managers cut from the same cloth. Max Power whilst a better player than you or I will ever be I suspect fell into that second group but at least he was professional during his time with us and played to his ability.
I didn't say it did mate i said he's looking in great shape.? For what its worth i think he is a good player, and always has been. I think alot of the abuse that was thrown at him was unfair, especially when he played RB, a position he's never played in before but he always put 100% in for us and never moaned.
Agree with all of this. We have “those” fans who will pick a player and hurl abuse. Look at O’Nien now! He seems to be that player.
Love him or hate him, he always put a shift in, might not of been at the level we wanted or needed, but scored a couple of crackers and was always passionate. Definately nowhere near the worst players we've ever had.
I remember all those 1-1s at home under Jack Ross and I swear every one of those games he attempted a worldie in the 94th minute and never got within 20 yards of hitting the target.
Not only captained us but one of only four players to lift a trophy for us at Wembley....papa John's,ironically breaking our losing streak....thankfully
