Only a marginal gain from Labour. A lot of disgruntled tory voters went reform. Going to be a sign of the night

You have from 8:30am til 10pm to be fair, so few people will be unable to do that. And there are also options for postal and proxy votes too.

That said, our incumbent government did recently enforce mandatory voter ID which is obviously a barrier to voting, and there was no real evidence of the voter fraud they claimed was their reason for doing it.

    thats the thing
    voter id, for what purpose
its just a way to lower the voting potential

    i think personally
a general election voting day should either be a national holiday or on a weekend

It's strange that the US and UK seemingly make it tougher to vote in a voluntary system and we make it easy for people despite it being mandatory anyway. You'd think we'd be the ones making it trickier since parties can't block people outright from voting.

8.30-10 on a workday can still be prohibitive as a single parent or someone in an office job. I was in the office flat out between those hours yesterday and wouldn't have been able to just pop out and stand in line for a few hours.

The Tories have probably ran the worst campaign I can (or anyone can) ever remember (on top of everything else they’ve done).

But memories can be short and they’ve really ramped up their own ‘Project Fear’ of late which I think will have dragged some of their vote out.

You need voter ID in every European country, EU and non EU, except the Irish Republic. Isn’t a barrier to voting there. Surely Remainers would approve?

Early days, but reform 2nd in the first two declarations.

    Conservatives are finished!

We don't typically have long queues (I've never queued at all, I just popped in on my usual lunchtime walk today). But yes, I take your point.

Of course it's a barrier to voting, in the very most literal sense.

Crazy that Labour are expected to get less votes than they did in 2019 but will end with a massive majority.

Fair enough, I'm definitely more casting my mind to the US where it seems very intentionally prohibitive, but I've never quite seen a compelling case for why you wouldn't have voting on a weekend (other than cost I presume).

When we vote we have to tell the polling station our name and address and they mark us off the roll. I'm not even sure we need to show our drivers license. If someone's a sad sack enough to want to go around and vote five times then I suppose they theoretically could but I'm not sure why anyone would bother, and there's never been much evidence of it being an issue.

I'm not sure why you'd need official voters ID other than to make it harder for some demographics from being able to vote.

Well there's more Tory MP's in trouble for sex offences than there are voters who committed fraud in the last election.

So the whole of Europe wants to make it harder for some demographics to vote, including the wonderful EU. Guess Remainers wouldn’t want to move there.
