About this time of the season that Charlie Appleby will unleash some of his best 2 year olds, like this colt who I am told is smart Shadow Of Light
4/6. Being backed as if it can't lose Lakers and Ultrasoul are nicely bred but both pink across the board
Hopefully Portland will get a more positive ride in the first race Newmarket on Thursday Will play each way, currently 7-1
Both Oscar and Sailawaywithme run in the same race tomorrow [3pm Clairefontaine] Think the first named will win and not surprised the opening 2-1 was taken on him, now 6-4. But will have a saver on the filly, currently 6-1
Did like the debut of Royal Playwright at Salisbury on Saturday. He is owned and bred by Geoff Smith and trained by Balding. In early shows he was favourite but money for the Becket horse saw him drift out to 3-1. He was always travelling strongly and though not doing anything particularly quickly seemed to learn his job and drew away from his field in the final furlong. Out of Smith's Juddmonte winner Arabian Queen he is by Lope de Vega and her dam's fifth foal and winner. First foal Spirit Mixer (Frankel) has won 5 races, won over 14f+ and seems to stay 16f. Second foal Frankella (Frankel) ran 6 times as a 2yo, winning over 6f on her 3rd start.Third foal Arabian Storm (Kingman) did not run as a 2yo but won an AW maiden as a 3yo over 7f. He is still in training. Fourth foal See the Fire (Sea the Stars) looked useful when winning on her 2yo debut at Newmarket and she confirmed that promise when 2nd in the May Hill and 3rd in the Fillies Mile. She looks just off top class with a 5th in the Coronation Stakes and 4th in the Eclipse. Royal Playwright should get 8f easily and could stay a bit further. He will be interesting to follow.
Very exciting. Out of the Galileo mare Magical, multiple Group wins including 7 G1s (would have been 10 G1s if Enable hadn't been around). Looks like this filly is the first and only progeny of Magical so far (can't tell if there is a foal and/or yearling somewhere)
I think Siege Of Troy is better than a handicapper and should take the beating tomorrow [4.50 Curragh] Currently 100-30
