Given the links to the likes of Celtic you’d have to think he’s holding out for a team playing European football… Or has already agreed a deal somewhere else

After all he’s probably in his peak and this will be his biggest contract (financially) of his career

Disappointing as you’d hope that a season in the Premier League would be enough to tempt him, but maybe we’ve made it clear we’re looking at other keepers and Vaz has decided to secure his financial future rather than sit on the bench

    Ben Johnson confirmed

Joe Rodon now expected to sign for Leeds as part of the deal with Spurs signing Archie Grey.

Disappointed if we miss out on Rodon, would be just the sort of profile and experience to supplement our centre back options.

I think it shows that the club won’t be held to ransom by a player tbh, it’s a shame because without him I don’t think we would have got automatic promotion. He was offered a contract and didn’t agree to it so I don’t think the club can be blamed.

Word on the street was he was offered a 2 year contract and wanted 3. At his age, I think we were right to only offer 2 years.

That’s not how he told it. He said the communication was poor and McKenna was surprised with how it was being handled and said he’d talk to the club.

If McKenna wants him at the club and he wanted three years and not silly money, give him it for getting us in the Prem for God’s sake. Madness.

Johnson will hopefully be a good signing for us. I can see Axel starting the season as one of the CBs.

I think he’s decent at full back. He’s not better than Woolfy or Burgess or Edmundson in the centre, not when he played there last season anyway.

He kicked Morsy twice but Morsy didn't make a fuss, then later on he hit Downes so hard he disappeared from the game and was relieved to be moved to right back for last few minutes of the game, dominated Morsy ? Thats absurd.

Hladkys contract has been on the table since January but he refused to sign, a 2 years contract for a 33 year old seems reasonable but he wanted the signing on fee that a free agent can expect so he let his contract expire unless he got a 3 year deal which would have taken him into his 37th year, you can't have the tail wagging the dog so off he goes and good luck, the prospect of playing in the EPL must have scared him.

Yes I agree with you absolutely absurd...do excuse me for having a different opinion to yourself.

Hitting a player hard is dominating them, ridiculous. Are you a fan of Ben Thatcher?

Good start to the transfer window. Already strengthened the 2 areas we look weakest with 2 players who will hopefully increase their value.

Strange for Hladky to leave, surely he'd want at least an opportunity to make a PL appearance. I wouldn't be uncomfortable with Walton being no.1 but I'd imagine it'll give McKenna the opportunity to go out and get a new no.1.

It's okay Haaland tends to stay on the left CB, Burgess will have him in his pocket :emoticon-0107-sweat

Haaland struggles against strong physical cb's like Rudigger, Burgess would deffo cope better, Wolfenden is too powderpuff and slow, good on the ball but not strong enough and sadly he would get exposed massively in the Prem, hope I'm wrong but.....

Woolfy probably found the Championship too easy. Rip up everything you think you know about players. This is an altogether different challenge. Chappers and Broadhead both looked like dead wood toward the back end of last season but they might relish Premier League football.

I don't think Haarland has struggled against too many CBs.

I was quite happy with the CBs last year, Burgess and Woolfenden especially didn't make too many mistakes but this year is a new challenge. I'm not saying I don't think they had weaknesses as they do but I think defensively last season the bigger problems were poor performances at RB and the fact we are a very open attacking team. So for me RB was a priority (signed) and tactically being a bit tighter collectively as a team.

Not saying we don't need a new CB but for me there are other positions need strengthening also. And we need to weigh this up against not disrupting too much the team that has done outstandingly well the past 2 seasons. As Hampy says this is a different league which will throw up different challenges.

Woolfenden was our best player in our period where we struggled most, he kept us in a lot of games with his reading of the ball and the defence always looked less assured without him in the team. Majority of his mistakes seemed to come from him getting outmuscled so something he needs to work on but his reading of the game is superb.

For me in terms of senior players we need at least 2 senior players in each position currently the squad looks like this

    GK: Walton

    RB: Johnson, Clarke
    LB: Davis (Johnson/Clarke can cover)
    RCB: Woolfenden, Tuanzebe
    LCB: Burgess, Edmundson
    Johnson/Clarke can cover CB

    RCDM: Morsy
    LCDM: Luongo, Taylor
RW: Burns (think Clarke can play here)
CAM: Chaplin (Broadhead, Taylor, Al Hamadi can play here)
    LF: Broadhead
Hutchinson can play across all 3 positions

    ST: Hirst, Al Hamadi

I've left out Harness as do not think he's good enough, and all the players who were out on loan for us last season for similar reasons. Plus Humpreys as I don't think we should rely on someone who has so little experience, a loan move would do him good next season.

Looking at the squad there's probably quite few gaps ontop of the 2 we already have. I'm not adverse to getting a new CB but it looks the position we are best stocked with senior players who can all play at a decent level.

GK cover (I've actually liked what I've seen of Slicker) or more likely a first choice GK
    LB cover
    Need at least 1 CM
Good good options in the forward positions and a number of players who can play in different positions. I'd like at least 1 more in there though maybe a more Burns type player, hardworking, physical and direct either wide left or right, think we've got enough options of people in the team who can do a job in the 10 position (Chaplin, Broadhead, Hutchinson, Taylor, Al Hamidi). Think if we lose Burns we don't have anyone else like him and how he plays is crucial to the balance of the team, whilst different players if we lose Chaplin, Broadhead, Hutchinson we don't lose much in terms of quality if they interchange between each other.
At least 1 senior striker. I really liked the look of Al Hamadi last season but not sure he'd be able to start if Hirst got injured but actually as an impact sub I can't see why we wouldn't use him in the PL, him, Sarmeinto and Hutchinson coming on in games last season brought some great energy and they all were a major part of why we got promoted even of they were mainly substitutes.

So minimum on top of the 2 we've already brought in I'd say we need another 5 signings.

Al hamadi won't be here, think he will go out on loan. Broadhead nowhere near good enough, not even sure about Chaplin tbh!!
