Just reading that Guehi is suspended for the next game after picking up another yellow. Could this mean Gomez gets a go? Edit: realised we’re in the wrong thread for England talk.
Honestly, not surprised at no buys yet. We've been slow the last couple of times there was an international tournament on. Scouts are always watching, and I'm sure Liverpool hierarchy had a list of suggestions ready for Slot on day one... And there was communication before he officially joined... But, there was probably a lot of waiting on Slot to actually be on field with the players to see who he really needed and who he needed to prioritize.
Doubt it. Gomez wasn’t brought as Cb cover imo think konsa and dunk are ahead of him there. I can see us going 352 though with Walker stokes konsa at the back and saka trippier at wing back.
A man of many talents but I think Gareth will stick with Stones (who may break some bones?). If we go 352 could see Trent playing if Tripper is injured, or just because Southgate wants Saka further forward.
There's more likelihood of Southgate going mad and picking forwards and wingers than there is of him picking a player who's played lb for Liverpool at LB for England. Aka zero. If the man didn't think to himself that throwing on gomez at LB un extra time was a good idea to shut the game down then why would he think to play him form the start?
We spent 80mil net last year so had to run to thr next financial year just to smooth this out. There's zero need to jump in and buy before the manager has a clue what he has or then wants or needs. It'd be basically saying thst Slot doesn't have a say if Hughes went and bought 3 players. I'd expect thst Slot has to have some ideas already
Slot was announced ages ago, so he had plenty of time to watch last season to determine what we do need though. It's not like he needs them at the training ground to assess. Clear we needed a DM (a proper long term one) all last season And with players leaving we definitely need another CB to replace Matip. So that's at least 2 players we should be on already
FWIW, I'm not sure that Gordon is any better than what we've already got.. but he's young and he brings something different. He dribbles the ball better than most of our current squad and can carry the ball forward when there isn't much forward space to pass into. I think because he runs and dribbles so much and more into shorter passing, he probably would do better with Nunez on counter-attacks. Nunez less likely to get caught offside if the ball has been ran up the field and passed to him over a shorter distance. Gordon reminds me of what Jordan Ibe LOOKED like he was going to become- before his development peaked too early on.
I doubt that very much. If I knew I had my next job lined up already and needed to know whats what before I got there, I'd be gather as much info as I could. It's not like he'd be judged on those last few months at Feyenoord when he'd already secured a much bigger job. Not a chance he just sat back and thought about Feyenoord, especially as the title was already gone
Arne slot has already said he has gone through the training session videos so I amnfully sure he's been studying tje players he has got but he will really want to check everything out in person too. I'm very sure there's a plan in place for recruitment based on the pretty obvious squad gaps we had I'd still expect him to pit fresh eyes on some of the opinions floating about anfield. There were and probably are some stale views of current playing Staff that should be challenged. Examples.might be van den Berg and morton (though I don't think either has to pace to play at the top level) Some players are maybe not going to be seen by slot as the type of physical player he wants. For example Bradley might look a bit hollow chested to him. Who knows.
Maybe we’re very different then. I’d hope and pray that he was 100% focussed on his current club and not going away and watching us while he was meant to be preparing for a game at the weekend. Once season ends, sure, but not during the season as you’re suggesting. If he does that’s a worry and shows a complete lack of respect for his employers at the time.
Ugarte's agent getting annoyed his next big pay day has not arrived fast enough. He's thrown out a liverpool link to try and ensure utd put down 100mil to buy him as soon as the copa is over.
Jakub Ojrzynski our 6th keeper is going out on trial. He's had a lot of injuries and is being allowed go on a trial ahead of ehat will likely be a free oit the door to his native Poland.
The goalkeeper injuries are baffling. Are they doing it in training? I can’t recall Alisson being injured in a game. He was subbed out once for a red for handling outside the area. Other than that they’ve all been mysteries, to me anyway.
