Before people pile in and say " it's just the nature of football today", consider this:

Newcastle are enjoying unheard of success. Bargain buys are playing out of their skins. There's a great rapport in the squad ( even though lots of people thought it would vanish after Nolan /Barton) and there's a chance of Europe.

Carroll apart, most of the sales I can recall were to lesson our Championship season wage bill which dwarfed about half of that league combined.

Why do we belittle ourselves by worrying about Colo,Tiote,Cabaye? Get the lads all under decent contracts and put £30m price tags on them.

Think about how hard it would be to replace these guys?

Carr had Tiote watched for YEARS!

Surely Fat Mike wouldn't want to undo all the success and good work in January. Would he?:emoticon-0181-fubar

I'd like to think not, but if he's sat there thinking he replaced Nolan, Carroll and Barton quite easily, then why wouldn't he think Colo, Tiote and Cabaye could be replaced too? That's just the sort of bloke he is. If he can make another £30m at the expense of a higher league position and a bit of stability and spirit, I'm fairly certain he'd have no qualms about it. I personally just don't like to think about it, and try and enjoy what's happening now without the little bit of negativity nagging away at me.

Mike Ashley would mud-wrestle his own grandmother for some extra cash. I'd love for him to prove me wrong but I just don't trust him and never will. I think at least one of our players will go in January - although hopefully Mike and Dekka will realise what a dumb move it would be now to sell to someone like Chelsea who right now we are competing with (although may not be at the end of the season, who knows). I just hope whoever goes is adequately replaced or our season could go downhill at a rate.

Really not looking forward to this transfer window. Hate transfer windows.

^^This sums up my feelings pretty well.

I hope that Mike Ashley is more interested in the extra revenue generated (and a raising of sportsdirect's profile) by us qualiying for europe than a quick profit now.
Alan Pardew is building a decent squad and management team and if Ashley is looking at long-term profits he should be backing Pards in strengthening the squad in January rather than letting our best performers go. But you can't help but worry where Mike Ashley is involved.

Ashley is about profit, and success = profit, so he'll be thinking along those lines. I'd be very surprised if contingency plans weren't already prepared. We have been linked with players in every position, so I'd expect Graham Carr probably has several XIs of potential signings.
