I think it's strategic, he doesn't want anymore questions regarding the racism links. If he can avoid the media for a week and continue using friendlier channels, he probably think he can dodge it all.
Good point tbf. That and his kamakazee move on Putin. They dipped a couple of points in the polls straight after that.
I just find it all amusing but in a sad way, racists calling racists, racists, you really couldn't make this up between the Tories and Reform, and with Rishi jumping all over it like a rash, it's like someone reversing up the Bibby Stockholm and taking it from the Tory waterway and dumping it in the Reform Lake. Bunch of spanners both sides. Both self destructing.
The Tories are for all their faults, a British institution with traditions going back to the ****ing 1800s. Yet here they are, bowing and scraping and fearing a party like Reform UK, matching rhetoric for rhetoric. Changing their Twitter page to "Tax Reform UK" to misguide the people. They are a ****ing disgrace, if they had any character, any grace, they would match Reform head to head and fight these bigots, without any thought to the Labour party, who they have already lost too. I do think the Tories clearly deserve to be knocked down into third place, but, who replaces them? There isn't anyone.
They never should've allowed the party to drift onto Farage's turf. Should've fought him ideologically. The problem fundamentally is that the party is split and a significantly vocal minority want to go there.
I personally think the racial slur is being used by the Tories to the Tories advantage, they've been looking for something in desperation to swing the voters back to them (those sitting on the fence), and Reform have just signed sealed and delivered it. Tories are now sniffing a chance to swing their voters away from Farage and over to Rishi. It's a sad state of affairs, but it's how it comes across to me. Total fooking desperation.
I've started to think a few of the moderates might end up defecting to Lib Dem if the party continues to flounder. It's down to how the Tories respond to all this post election, they genuinely could fall apart tbh. It's rumoured the party is also broke.
I don't think they'll fall apart if they don't get taken over by the incompetent lunatics. I actually hope the electorate do them a favour and dump all the libertarian and xenophobic fruitcakes like Braverman and Jenrick. And leave all the sensible tories in office. Even if they're left with 150 MPs but they're mostly all the one-nation tory types it'll be the best thing that could happen to them in a way.
I really hope not. I may not be a Tory supporter but there were (and probably still are) tories I'd listen to and respect. For the sake of the country I hope you're wrong.
if what you said happened the local parties would deselect their MP's to let Braverman et al stand . Remember the purge that they and Boris did to "get brexit done"
they did yes but the local party select the prospective MP and it is very rate for the "Party" to interfere
I hope they become a fringe party and the main political arena is occupied by Labour and a Lib Dem opposition, pulling the country firmly back to the centre left, where the debate is about social justice and public investment, instead of ****in boat people. The Tories have imploded and it’s of their own making. Brexit gave a platform to the right wingers in that party and since Boris, they’ve hijacked the conservative agenda to the point where you now have Rishi standing in front of a ‘stop the boats’ lectern. **** em… the are about to reap what they have sown. And they now belong alongside Reform, the DUP and the other minority parties in Westminster. We’ve heard nothing but their voice for the last 14 years and look at the ****in state of things.
Don't get me wrong I want the Tories out of power forever. But I want them there in parliament. The problem is if there isn't a moderate conservative party you leave a vacuum for the likes of Farage to fill it.
I would have thought you was old enough by now to have learned how quickly politics change, and how your dream will not happen. Give it another five years....to think that the Tories are finished long term is just laughable. My concern would be a more extreme right wing party rises from the ashes, if what you say did happen, so be careful what you wish for.
