Hero or zero on selling May. You'll read total boll**** from Ivor and the apologists saying either a good move or Alfie wanted to leave. It will all go tits up and Jones will not last the season.
It's a massive call by Jones. On one hand it shows he has the balls to make a really big decision. But he will stand or fall by it. There is no way to predict whether the new team Jones is assembling will gel and compete. If they don't, then without Alfie May's goals we could end up in worse danger of relegation than we were last season. I guess we will know by around November time.
I still think Nathan will be a success for us, and I am 100% behind him. He is highly driven & motivated, and has a proven track record as a manager at this level. Let’s be honest, if a coach of his calibre cannot launch a successful promotion challenge this season where Adkins, Jackson, Garner, Holden and Appleton failed, the club is finished …doomed to a life at this lowly level. I don’t think that’s an exaggeration.
We'll all be supporting whichever team wears the shirt, and NJ will have the support of Upper North. Even if we have a sticky start I don't foresee any appetite for a quick change of manager, except maybe a few keyboard warriors. And he’s got another 4 years on his contract. He’s got such a job on his hands It would be a great achievement to make the playoffs, so I don't see any reason to speculate on his future.
If things go wrong on the pitch we all know who will carry the can and who will pay the price with his job. There is absolutely no way Jones is still manager by the end of next season if Charlton are in the bottom half of the league at Christmas. We will be on our second gaffer of the campaign - and then our third if he fails to impress within 10 weeks. Same old hamster wheel. None of us are getting off it any time soon.
It’s far, far too soon to be critical of Nathan Jones. He is saying all the right things about the type of players he is wanting to bring in…no dickheads & time wasters in his words. We can only properly judge the wisdom of the Alfie May sale when we see who the replacement is. No way are we spending £1,000,000 on this lad from Ipswich though.
All day long guvnor. IMO we have been stalling on buying players until we sell May, I imagine we'll pay less than what we receive on the replacements. Besides, buying a carthorse from Dunfermline tells me all I need to know as to how much money is in the till.
