More from The Guardian on West Ham/KWP/Downes: Julen Lopetegui, who is interested in the Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters has made signing a centre-back a priority and Kilman is top of his list. ... Ipswich have agreed a deal to sign Ben Johnson, the versatile full-back, on a free from West Ham. Lopetegui needs cover for Emerson Palmieri and Vladimir Coufal in both full-back positions and is looking at Walker-Peters, who has a year left on his deal, and the Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. David Moyes, Lopetegui’s predecessor, was not convinced about moving for Walker-Peters, who can play at left-back and right-back. But West Ham, who are also searching for a striker, remain interested in Walker-Peters and there have been talks with Southampton, who want to sign Flynn Downes on a permanent deal. Downes spent last season on loan at Southampton, playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League, and West Ham want to sell the midfielder.
I shudder to think what kind of contract that will have taken. Three of those are in the north so he probably didn’t want to go.
Scott Carson has been on £35k a week for about 10 years at City and played about 30 seconds of football. Decent job if you can get it
He's 38 now. Why should be play at a low level earning peanuts when he can be third choice at City earning good money.
He's at the age now where he won't be playing for a team who would pay him 20k a week. I don't blame him for what he's doing at all.
Plus he’s been first choice at some no mark club before, gets to travel the world, train with the best players in the world, be part of squads that compete and win things and earn more money. Sounds better than being first choice for Brentford or something
Carson basically retired when he left Derby. From 2019 onwards he has barely played. Good retirement money!
What about bringing Forster back seeing as we love a former player rumour. He’s Carsoning it up at Spurs at the moment, not sure when his contract is up
It almost certainly means he will be. Seems unlikely he’d turn down second choice at higher profile clubs in Europe to sit on our bench. Unless he really really doesn’t want to move. But even then Arsenal could probably have still worked
