I tend to agree with that but I don't think it's very worrying - should have far too much for Slovenia.
We should absolutely have too much for Slovenia. With this group of players we should have been able to control possession against Denmark. We should be able to do a lot of things with this group but only if utilised correctly, and that is the bit I worry about.
I don't rate Gallagher anywhere near to the same degree as others do. So if Gareth insists on two DMs (as opposed to dropping Jude back), then I too would have preferred Wharton. But that said, I've only seen a little of him at Palace, so maybe my view is unfairly biased towards what I've heard rather than what I've seen.
I'm fine with Gallagher TBH. He doesn't need to be that good. What he will provide is what was sorely lacking against Denmark - energy. He has better players around him such as Rice and Bellingham so the fact that he has limited technical ability matters little IMO.
We were unable to retain possession against Denmark. We were crying out for someone who is good at receiving the ball under pressure and on the turn - that is Wharton's game. Although Gallagher is a big upgrade on Trent in that position so hopefully we will see some improvement in terms of performance.
Did I see the stat here or on the TV that England's pressing is the third worst in the whole tournament and worse than every Premier League team last season - and comfortably so.
Chances created we are like second from bottom as well. Terrible all around and Gallagher is not the answer. Play Wharton or Mainoo ffs.
It’s honestly mad that he decided to experiment with the TAA in midfield for the first time during the tournament. He’s literally had years to try it and countless friendlies / qualifiers / warm up games. Yet he does it at the tournament. Awful management
Didn’t I read somewhere that TAA has started in midfield for something like 8 of the last 9 England games. So he had chance to see it doesn’t work and ignored it anyway just to placate the pro-Liverpool media (because seriously, what other reason could there be at this point?)
