Other results mean that England have now qualified for the round of 16 before they play tonight. Qualifying with a match to spare is good, but something of a double edged sword as well. Southgate could make some changes if he wishes, but the performance and result against Slovenia tonight won't mean very much. England have not yet played a game at this tournament where there is anything really at stake during the 90 minutes. And tonight is now no exception. The team know they are through, so there is no pressure on them. They might thrash Slovenia 6-0 and we still learn nothing about the way they will play in a knock-out stage match. Or they might slump to defeat as they did against Iceland recently - another match where there was nothing at stake. England supporters will still have no idea how the team will play when under pressure. Don't think I'll even bother to watch the game tonight. It's meaningless.
