Kenny on, and Gilmour makes it 4 current or ex-City players.

Hanley totally fluffs a header, Gunn can't get a good glove on the ball. 5-0, camera pans to Kenny, Grant then Angus all looking unhappy. I didn't think I'd need to see that for at least another month...

    Saved by offside thankfully.

Watching the highlights this morning, it looked as if Angus was guarding a net at least two metres wider than the standard. That said, Musiala's shot just flew straight over and past him. Lot of improvement required against Switzerland and Hungary if Scottish pride is to be restored. Four points needed, minimum.

McLean came on in the 78th minute. Hanley could have been the hero but his header hit the post and came out. Finished 1-1, so Scotland's hopes still alive with bottom of the group Hungary to play next.

Marcelino Núñez was in the Chile side who drew 0:0 with Peru last night in the second Group A match on the opening day of the 2024 Copa America. The match was played in Arlington TX, one of 14 US venues hosting the tournament. Earlier in the day, Argentina beat Canada 2:0 in the opening match, played in Atlanta GA.

Panama open their Copa America campaign in the early hours tomorrow morning . The game against Uruguay kicks off at the hard Rock Stadium in Miami FL at 02:00 Monday BST (i.e. 21:00 Sunday EDT in Miami). By a quirk of coincidence, the managers of the two teams have both occupied the hot seat at Elland Road -- Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay) and Thomas Christiansen (Panama). The Uruguayans are enjoying a hot streak of form and go into the match as firm favourites. Minnows Panama, and our new signing Cordoba in particular, will have their work cut out to keep the scoreline respectable. Uruguay have Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez leading the line.

Meanwhile, closer to home, Angus Gunn and Grant Hanley both start for Scotland in their crunch, final group stage match in Euro 24 against Hungary. At stake is qualifying for the knock-out stages through the back door of "best 6 out of 8 third placed teams". There is even a mathematical chance of Scotland pipping Switzerland to automatic qualification in second place, but that would require Scotland to beat Hungary and turn over a GD of -6 compared to the Swiss.

Sad for Scotland, but 5 shots, with the only one on target Hanley's late header, just wasn't enough attack. Gunn and Hanley both played well and were Scotland's highest rated players on both WhoScored and Flashscore.

Good that he's fit enough to be on the bench and didn't risk any further injury.

I agree they both played well but taking up a point raised on another thread it has to be accepted that Gunn's distribution - a hoof up the middle - was awful and will be no use to the small players we have up front.

Going by what we've heard from our new manager, I don't think we are going to see much hoofing up the middle while he's in charge!

Any player playing for the national team has to play the way the manager tells him to. Clarke could argue that Hungary were pressing hard and the long kicks were a way to bypass that to create chances up front. It didn't work, but that's not really Gunn's fault.

I also disagree with 1950's points about the height of our strikers as Sargent, Barnes and Idah are all over 6' tall. That doesn't mean we should resort to Gunn hoofing, but Sargent had a good success rate on latching on to long through balls from Sara and McLean to create scoring chances.
