If you are serious about a promotion push you don’t sell the divisions top scorer. Is it Jones decision or the owners. If it is the owners then I owe Lardy and Uber an apology.
I suspect the fee for May will finance 6/7 free transfers or relatively cheap signings like the Scottish full back this summer. Fair enough if that is the case, it is a strategy of sorts, but equally can Methven’s forum mouthpieces on ITTV & CL stop peddling the lie that there is a big war chest for new players. There isn’t. They are selling our best player. You don’t do that when you are flush with funds. George Dobson was allowed to leave by this mob as well.
Considering the way NJ kept dropping Alfie and subbing him off early it looks like it's NJ and the SMT.
Despite the PR & spin, nothing ever changes at Charlton. A team that finished 16th in League One last season has just given away its two best players
And Blackett-Taylor. The apologists will not be told otherwise, GFP are frauds. You build a team, all we do is replace players. In the last 30 seasons we have not had more than 8 players score more than 20 in a season. We'd have gone down if you took away 10 of his goals. Jones won't last the season.
...and CBT. Only played half a season but was still joint second top scorer, if I remember right, not to mention assists. I know he goes AWOL at times, but still an unnecessary loss.
I’m still behind Nathan Jones & the investors. The entire SMT wants running down the gang plank. But the Alfie May sale is inexplicable. I don’t see how it’s compatible with either ambition or promotion.
No apology needed. We are totally united in our feelings on his latest bad news. And we may never earn whose decision it was. These things are so often kept from fans, or conflicting accounts emerge and we have to guess who's telling the truth.
One thing that’s very evident about the Alfie May saga is the rock bottom ambition that certain forum only fans have for our club. On the one hand, the owners have invested big money in the player budget this summer, and we need proven “elite” players, on the other Alfie May is not that good really (23 goals) and we can’t turn down bids from the likes of err …Huddersfield Town . Both statements can’t be true, even to the thickest of observers. The truth is that this will be the latest in a long line of owners who sell our best players at the first whiff of money, regardless of the PR leaks from Methven.
Different if we were selling a player to a Premiership or even Championship club. but a promotion rival????
https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=gassan ahadme&tbm=&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5 This is the man. He scored 11 goals last season and a number of them were penalties. We are also interested in the Cardiff striker, whose name escapes me.
Thanks . He’s younger than Alfie May but so what, he’s got a vastly inferior goal scoring record. The club would be swapping proven ability for potential. Again , not in keeping with the stated strategy.
If May goes it will be spun that May asked to leave even though Charlton wanted to keep him. Get rid of Scott Keep May Bring in players who can step up, or have Championship experience. I predict that May goes, the strikers brought in fail, and Jones does not complete a season at Charlton.
Nathan Jones was very clear that he wanted the new squad in place “by the end of June”. The squad returns for pre season training on Thursday, and we are miles off. Thats not a comment based on “panic”, just a statement of fact that we have been very slow with the recruitment again this summer. Berry was a good deal, and we have the Millwall CB & a new reserve keeper - but in terms of “8 elite players” …miles off.
These were James Rodwell’s words in January at the fans Q&A, where incidentally I was the only one to call out Andy Scott and his role at the club. 8 “elite” players - May & Dobson were our only two at the time. Both gone / going. 8 squad fillers 8 Academy kids.
I’ve been told that Alfie hasn’t gone but he’s been told he won’t be starting every game and if he’s happy with that he’s more than welcome to stay - source from within the club
New Keeper deal is close. Mitchell to be announced today or tomorrow. Ness May be off for a small fee.
