TLT has come on leaps and bounds with his loan spell as well. One of the rare times we've sent someone out on loan and had a successful outcome really.
It's as if people are just ignoring the fact he was the second worst GK in the championship for goals conceded compared to how many he should have, he cost us about 10 goals. Only one worse was Bazunu at Southampton.
If Greaves goes to Ipswich. Good luck to him, but will that mean there's one there surplus to requirement? eg Luke Woolfenden...ie swap deal plus money incoming to the HCAFC coffers?
Agree, except I wouldn't say he's a 'poor' goalkeeper overall. He's average / ok, but as you say, not one for a promotion push. His 'calmness' was in some ways an asset, in other ways a failing in that there typically was no urgency in his distribution. A good keeper mixes it up far better and looks for early distribution opportunities; he was typically just far too slow (or call it 'calm'). I'd say a move to Birmingham is a decent move. Good luck to him. (Edit: just read he's a Blues fan so a 3 year deal at 32 at the club he supports is more than a decent move for him!! Good for him). Although it's clear Acun didn't think he was up to it, and was wrong to throw him under a bus like he did (he could still have made his points without being so explicit) it's highly likely that it was actually the concensus of the 'brains trust' (or whatever it's called) that led to the whole Pandur / Allsop situation. Meaning it's likely them as a collective concluded we needed a better keeper and then identified Pandur as that keeper, hence the signing and then likely hence Acun's expectations that he would get his chance (if not even become first choice). The difference in opinion was far more likely to be Rosenior against the 'brains trust' (which as Acun said, was Rosenior's prerogative).
We don’t necessarily need to bring one in though? Allsop was very good with his feet, but im not being funny he had the ball way too much anyway. Also by the sounds of it, whoever is in goal will have a lot more options to pass the ball to in Walters system unlike Rosie’s when the ball only went through Seri or else it just stayed with the centre backs
If I had been a defender in front of Allsopp he wouldn't have inspired and filled me with confidence in any way.
It’s baffling people are talking as if we didn’t need a new solidified first choice anyway. He was the 2nd worst keeper in the division ffs.
Do you seriously think he’s good enough to start for a team looking to make the top 6 after the season he just had? The outfield players and Rosie deserved a top 6 finish for me, but he cost us more points than anyone else in the squad alone.
No,he probably isn't ideal for a team looking for a top 6 finish but until the recruitment happens, who says we are? The outfield players, defensively, are inherently responsible for protecting the keeper...They didn't.Hence the reason he was left picking the ball out of the net more often than he should have been. Rosenior picked him, entirely his choice, his decision, against the wishes of the Turk...Not sure how he (Rosenior)deserved a top 6 finish, given he put him in and he cost us all those points by your calculation?
It will be a tough season ahead, I think. We’ll no doubt have an influx of new players to bed in. New manager unfamiliar with the Championship. New playing style. I don’t know what to expect.
This is exactly what the stats disprove. He should have conceded 10 fewer goals than he did based on the quality of chances we conceded and the saves he should have made. It's nothing to do with the other players.
Any 'stats' on players who should've put a tackle in,failed to track back, stood with hands on hips and didn't follow play or failed to defend? Read the first part of my post where I clearly stated he probably isn't good enough? I know he let in some shots that looked fairly saveable I commented on them at the time, when it was considered taboo.I didn't need stats to confirm what I saw with my own eyes.
I just believe performance level the team achieved was regularly let down by Allsop. The defence can only do so much, we were one of the best sides in the division at limiting teams to more difficult chances yet Allsop was the 2nd worst keeper in the league at preventing them. Of course Rosie kept picking Allsop but what Acun fails to recognise is that Allsop after January, Allsop had a slight upturn in form and you can’t just change goalkeepers like you would an outfielder.
No one seems to be addressing the elephant in the room here. Regardless of what Acun thinks, the manager and his coaching staff obviously thought Allsop was a better keeper than Pandur; indeed Pandur's stock fell so low that he was pushed off the bench. Yet it seems to be a given that he's going to be not only our number one keeper, but a top six one at that. Optimistic at best, downright foolhardy at worst.
I do believe this is somewhat true however I do think circumstances of the season meant changing the goalkeeper mid season didn’t make that much sense.
Ipswich won't have the inclination to go large on Greaves - ideally we need another to show interest with more fiscal muscle. I'd like to see the 'hairy cornflake' TLT be given some time in the first team friendlies - see if he can make the transition and give us a break in the GK department.
