The Hull game will be interetsing. They're no pushovers. Maybe the bubble hasn't burst quite yet but if Sadkins and co. drop any more points this week then who knows....
You are a wag ffd - Nigel Sadkins - now that is likely to start a few ructions from the deckchairs............
Wondered if anyone read Daren Wheeler's "Beautiful South" column in this satuirday's sports Echo? The article concerned the recent shinnanigans with Portsmouth's owners and trotted out the old nugget about PFC having bought the FA cup and that their financial woes were of their own making. A work colleague once showed me an extract from the Portsmouth News which was full of reference to "scummers" and "Saints fans being amongst the ugliest in England" prior to the previous FA Cup encounter which struck me as being the worse piece of football journalism I've ever read. However, Wheeler's comments , whilst considerably more informed and better written, seemed to reciprocate the ill-will and suggested that the Portsmouth fans got the team they deserved. The essay went on to suggest that the financial situation will unravel further and predicted further misery which , of course, would be fully deserved. Listening to Radio solent this morning, admittedly this now seems quite likely if future payment can't be guaranteed. I must admit that I like reading some of Daren Wheeler's comments but was rather staggered by the unsporting attitude in this piece which ridiculed the Portsmouth faithful in a fashion that is usually pretty rapidly shot down by more fair-minded and mature Southampton fans on this board. It is amazing how some journalists fail to make a distinction between the club and the fans. Reading between the lines, the new owners failure was perceived to reflect the maliase with the team's fan base. If I was Michael Appleton, this article would be immediately pinned to the notice board in the Pompey dressing room - no further incentive needed.
Interesting comments as always Ian. The Portsmouth News and the Southampton Echo appear to be on an identical level of 'patheticness' in the defence of their own local team. Totally blinkered to my mind. However, some fans think differently, and thoroughly enjoy the abusive newspaper articles for their own satisfaction
Both camps will do all they can to stoke up the rivalry. It sells papers. Mindyou, they both seem to be even more partizan this time around. Sign of the times I suppose.
The actress Sienna Miller was giving evidence to the Leveson enquiry and said that the paparazzi would spit at her in the street - to try and get a reaction. Princess Diana complained about something very similar as well. There are numerous similar examples of the press setting up the unsuspected. Sounds like a familiar tactic to this - stoke it up and get a story.
Of course you have to bear in mind that with the Snooze and Faily Echo, the journalists are third rate hacks working for third rate rags. And by god does it show...
Hot off the press, the Daily Echo have just announced their new sports editor. please log in to view this image
Not even Sweep would stoop that low Rich There was an interesting article in the TV mag from Saturday's Daily Mail, that said that Harry Corbett thought he was Sooty's dad, and probably thought more of Sooty than his own two sons. If that was the case, then does that make you Sweep's dad or guardian ?
