I think it needs to be before day 1 of pre-season, personally. Hell it needed to be earlier than that. But from where we are right now, we need them before day 1. They need to be setting the tone.
Pre-season definitely starts next week. Which day next week we don't know, but the club have said end of June and I am pretty confident it won't be this week.
I believe it does, but what do you think happens first days back? Practice drilling new formations on how the new coach wants to play. Personal one to one chats with the coach? I don't believe that, think it'll be more like getting weight, doctors check on fitness, and sizes of new kit
I agree to an extent, I just think that the new Head Coach should be there setting the tone and getting to know the players. And I'd be surprised if they did nothing tactically in the first few days of pre-season.
I don't agree that a new Head Coach with his own playing identity would not be using any of the first 2 weeks of pre-season at a new club to instil that identity. Maybe in the olden days when it was all 4-4-2 and limited tactically. But nowadays? No chance. The Head Coach will absolutely be more involved in the first 2 weeks than just fitness training.
I know South will agree with you, but I disagree, nee good training what you don't know you've got. Got to find out who's fit, weight, fines, gear and lockers. We'll beg to differ on opinion.
Not wanting to argue, just clarify. My point is you can do both. You can do all the fitness training, metric testing etc, whilst also training on tactics and playing style. Its not one or the other. These players aren't coming back a stone overweight needing to run marathons each day, they will have kept up a level of fitness.
It’s just downright stupid to not have a new head coach ready for 1st day of pre season. At least give the players some reassurance on what is going on and what the plans are. Had the entire break to get someone in for them
Disagree, it's not worth trying to instill values and formations if they haven't been checked and welcomed back
Coaches come and go. He knows he'll get more gametime here than anywhere else. I'm confident he'll sign
Do you think they only train for an hour a day? They can get measured, fitness tests each morning for the first week and do tactical training in afternoon. Even if thats sitting in a lecture theatre being coached via video. I know you'll just say "agree to disagree" again... so... @FellTop will know. Is the first 2 weeks of pre-season just fitness testing? Or is there more to it?
Whether there is more to it or not, the fact is the HC would be analysing the squad and working out what he needs and who will be going etc. Terrible situation for the players the uncertainty, especially if your a player on the fringes, you want to know so you can sort a move out
