That brings back some memories. I can clearly remember Stuart Pearson in that 72-75 kit.

****ing hell...You and I must have the same childhood memories and thought process.

69 was my first year too,I'd just turned 8 and got took by my late Father and his uncle who was a season ticket holder for many, many years.I started off under the supervision of them both, inbetween them but soon fledged down to the well and later(when I'd plucked up the courage),onto Bunkers.

I loved Boothferry and have so many fond memories of it (and most of the players who plyed their trade at it during the early 70's).Sadly the Stadium was never commemorated properly.

It's a pity we didn't stick with Umbro and get something similar to the new Grimsby shirt

I was 8 too but we’d never lived in the UK until a couple of months before (apart from a few months in Blackpool when I was 5) because my Dad was in the Army.
He was born in Barton and as a young lad was offered the chance by a neighbour to go to Grimsby (at that time a 1st Division team), Scunthorpe or City and thankfully he made the right choice and was hooked from then on.
We went as a family the first time, although my Mum and Sister never went again but I was hooked too.
We went in Bunkers but I used to go in the well quite a bit too. Great memories.

The previous link cut off the season before I started going in 1963. Liked the striped shirt with thinner stripes and the 2 following shirts. Couldn’t stand the all amber kits, though it was more yellow than amber to me, with 2 hoops. Then they started playing in plain amber shirts when I started work and was able to go home and away more regularly. If you look at the striped shirts when we first started out I prefer them to our more recent one, especially as the amber looked better,

How old are you! Last time Grimsby were in Division 1 was 1949? That would make you 81 or 82. You don’t come across as someone 7 years older than me.<laugh>

He said he was offered the chance to go when he was 8 and Grimsby were a 1st Division team.
Last time Grimsby were in Division 1 was 1949. For reasons not wholly connected with football have had a skinful today so what am I missing?

Clearly - The OP references his Dad as the recipient of the Grimsby game invite.

Slightly off topic but does anyone else think our retail operation is terrible?

We’ve been doing the same thing for decades and are so far behind other clubs, there are League Two clubs that do it better.

The range of merch is poor and unoriginal, the shirts are always released late and the promotions/marketing is average at best.

How long did it take us to get on the retro shirt bandwagon? Clubs have been doing it for years and when we finally try it, they sell out instantly, what a surprise.

A friend had a baby recently and I wanted to buy it something for the City shop, there was literally nothing for a newborn, no clothes, kits or toys, compare that to the Leeds shop (don’t ask why I was in there) and they had 10+ baby grows for starters, along with a everything else you could want for a baby.

Look how much merch Hull FC sell a year, they have 3/4 different sets of training kit and they all sell, same with Rovers.

Someone needs to be brought in to overhaul our retail or even consider outsourcing it like a lot of clubs do now, but we’re missing out on revenue.
