Does anyone have good recommendations for interesting pubs/bars in the city centre to take tourists to? I’ve got the classics like Ye Old White Harte, Ye Olde Black Boy, William Hawkes, Minerva. Wondering if there’s some gems I’ve missed off?
Sailmakers arms on high street used to be great, but I haven’t been there in 20 years. Is it still open? I need an old town pub crawl
Sailmakers are still open but since I haven't been able to drink for the last six years I can't tell you what it's like.
I went in The George a month or so back. Hadn’t been in for years and it took me right back. Well worth a look. I also went in The Bonny Boat for old times sake. Seven o’clock on a Friday night and it was literally me and the barman. It hadn’t changed either ( not a lot to change) but I don’t know how it’s surviving.
Bonny boat - is the one one in the market place? I remember it was always viewed as an old man’s drinking place.
Yep. Just a small single room. No frills. We used to go in occasionally in the 80s when my then brother in law was the relief manger.
The George have an upstairs bar which is brilliant for sport. There’s about 10 screens so it’s a perfect view wherever you sit or stand.
If your after quiet try Walters I think it's changed name to Scale and feather or if your fancying a bit of games ie pinball Fretwell both in Scale lane
