Hull Fan here, absolutely gutted, had a lump in my throat all day. What a tragic loss, and I know how much he meant to your club. RIP
When you think about the truly great footballers that have graced the premier league over its history, Gary Speed in my view would be one of those. Loved him at Newcastle, made up when we signed him from Everton and was gutted to see him leave. The tributes aren't exaggerated or over-blown because of today's tragic news – he was a top class player, top class professional and to those who knew him a top class bloke too. It's a mark of how shocked everyone is that few could have seen it happening and such a shame all of us who thought so much of him couldn't have done anything to help. I was only thinking yesterday while he was on football focus that he seemed to be a guy who had it all and deserved it after the playing career he enjoyed, but it shows these fellas we idolise are just people too. Thoughts with obviously with his family and RIP Gary. His old gaffer Sir Bobby will be looking after him now though I'm sure...
I am so so gutted, I still can't believe he has passed away he was a true legend. the best way to sum him up was nobody had a bad word to say about him. Every club he was at he was loved and gave everything. R.I.P Gary and thanks for your dedication and superb performances for Newcastle.
To see so many tributes on so many different forums shows what a great guy he was, sadly missed and our thoughts and prayers must go to his family.
Being too young to remember his early career I hadn't realised the length of his time at Leeds and what they achieved whilst he was there. I start work in Leeds this week; going to get myself along to Elland Road to pay my respects. Cheers Speedo
The best tribute I can think of for Speedo is that I still call any pin-point cross field pass 'the Gary Speed pass'. RIP Gary.
RIP I just wanted to say that speedy has not killed him self. He was very happy on football focus and it surely was an accident. RIP Gary you acheived a lot

He was such a key figure for Leeds and part of the best Leeds midfield I am ever likely to see. Speed Mccallister Batty Strachan - I will always remember him for being part of that.

Ive sat staring at my Mac wondering what to write.... feeling like i need and want to write something but not sure what makes sense Gary Speed to me was the everything a professional footballer should be. My time as a season ticket holder on the Kop allowed me to watch him flourish from youth team, reserves and the first team. I saw him play in just about every position except GK, not sure i saw him at CB either..... He was a great LB but his best position was without doubt left sided midfielder. (well done sgt Wilko) As a part of the fab four (the best midfield 4 in my view to play together) he was a key part... Not the most skillfull or the toughest but an integral part the that Leeds United side that without him we would not have done the impossible when we lifted the old first division title. His ability in the air was frightening and with perfect timing headed many a great goal and a sweet left peg saw many a strike ripple the back of the net... I was sad the day he left too Everton and still watched his career as he moved to Newcastle and Bolton and even Sheffield United! I was not surprised when he moved into management and he soon turned a lost Welsh team around and set them in the right direction.... Sunday i felt like i lost a close friend or family member..... i was shocked and found myself just staring at Sky Sports and reading twitter....i lost hours yesterday and spent last night digging out my old VHS watching the video of the season we won the league.. i just wanted to take a bit of time to appreciate Gary Speed the player and the man... Gary you were a true Leeds legend and a "Top Man" You will never be forgotten at Elland Road or buy the privileged ones who saw you always give 100% when you pulled on the white of LEEDS UNITED... god bless you and rest in peace...
Agree, I have to admit that that midfield you had when u who the title was amazing, not many midfield line ups that long ago where u can remember them all off the tongue now .
