Let's be fair though, clumsy as it was I think it was just a genuine question in a way. I didn't read it as piss taking or a joke, just a blundering way of asking a question that has probably crossed all our minds. It's the world we live in, with incidents like Michael Hutchence's then it's bound to be asked, especially given the completely inexplicable nature of his death. For genuine piss taking and going too far then look no further than the GC.
i agree Chops, it was just the bluntness of the question, and the facelessness(is that a word) of cyber space, that is not knowing the real context of the way he expressed himself, or delivered the question. which to be honest is a valid one in this case.
Given that Gary Speed had only been dead a few hours and that there was shock, there were tributes, minutes silence etc for the model professional and nice lad he undoubtably was dont you think it was strange and premature to have thoughts about sex instead memories of his footballing talent and sorrow for his wife and children.
i live in cardiff and the opinion from within the football camp today is that he was going to be outed as as being Bi. Now I don't get this, not in a homophobic way, but if that were true would it be enough for a man like Gary Speed to take his life? A man dedicated to his wife & family, surely such an act would create more harm to his family than being jsu being outed? Surely something in his pasr would of surfaced before hand seeing the profile of the man? Depression is the more likely cause of the events, anf eben if not true the media should not pry into the private life of the deceased when they can not speak for themselves.
i don't doubt that he didn't mean it offensively, but the fact of the matter is you have to think about the context of things before you post. He may have simply been questioning why or whether it was suicide, but it came out as 'he may have accidently killed himself whilst practising some masochistic pleasure experiment' One of the drawbacks of forums is that you can't change the way you enunciate and its very hard to get things across as you mean to at times. For example, the past few sentences i have written will be read differently by each individual on here (more or less)
enough of this anyway. A legend of the game has died and its a sorry piece of news among the football world. Let's give his family the space they deserve to grief on their own and pay respect how we can
i hear what your saying and I agree, I'm not defending comaS, just saying I could also see where he was coming from too, when i fiirst saw the headline I was confused, shocked, and a struely saddened, I couldn'y in my head get tom grips with what I was reading, and to be honest what comas said did go through my head, but other things did too. the depression theory came later. i feel that many people are really effected by his death, and especially as we in general did not know the man, such was the respoect for him, and the nature in which the event unfolded. such is the grief people are searching for their own rationale for why? I can't believe he's gone, and my thoughts are with his family and close friends
Well whatever comas meant, thought or said has as much strength as a fart in a hurricane and like Jezz said we've had our say. But i get the points you've made tunns.
Not considering who it came from, that doesn't mean it was malicious though, just really insensitive. My own first thoughts weren't that it was depression because for someone to be that depressed there would have to be a known history of it. I doubt very much that sudden, instant depression could cause such a reaction, it would have to be building or recurring. Which is why my first thought is that he was being hounded and was about to be outed by one of the rags for something he had done. Didn't know what that something was but that's what I thought, which is why I get why someone would think sex game.
Fair enough RR but if there are any dark secrets behind Gary's suicide they will emerge as time goes by,and probably in the S*n.
