There was no mention of a Hall, only the amount the club needs to bring in, the expected amount they will have available and these figures were inclusive of the new sponsorship deals I hope Hall was factored in and I'm assuming that 28 million was.
Hopefully we've still got 50 million not 45 it could be the difference between Connor Coady and Dunk.
We know just questioning whether the amount amortised is factored into the reported calculations for available spend.
Minteh keeps scoring.. I think Howe needs to forget about other targets he's got lined up and just accept ashworths signings of Hall and and Minteh and Livramento have proven excellent ones. Just sign some cbs and be done
Not only that. He was voted the best player on the pitch. We have a gem here. Unearthed a talent and we are about to let him slip through our fingers?
Arma's not a PL player. Probably wasn't worth getting rid of, mind, and the Toney situation was a complete fck up. I'd like to see real ambition from the club - Minteh on loan, to maybe Germany, and bring in a 1st choice RW (Raphinha). The problem we have this season is, without Europe, there's no chance for fringe players to get meaningful gametime and is why I'm disappointed with moves like Trafford because, again, that's not where we need to be in the evolution. We need to be seriously strengthening where possible the first team. A question mark over Pope and his shoulder will leave us woefully exposed because Trafford is not a PL GK at the moment and won't miraculously become one in two months. It just feels like a theme with the way Howe manages, or struggles to manage, a squad. He'd have fit right in under Ashley - 11 purple players (remember that?!) then try and make the subs bench a bit better. Look at Howe early last season - same XI three times a week, then everyone's wondering where the injuries came from. Feels to me that Howe is fine with his first XI and a set way of playing but just struggles to deviate. I'll use the City example again - they had a squad with 9 less players than ours last season, and played in considerably more fixtures. We need to be trying to emulate that - when City lost Ederson, they didn't bring in a crap 2nd choice, and they definitely didn't turn to a 21 year old like Trafford (who they let go) because they understand that's where games are lost. For the sake of Dubravka, Karius AND GIllespie could we not have had ONE decent second choice in place? How many games did Karius/Gillespie get when Dubs was dogshit? None. So can someone explain what the **** Howe is doing? It's not just GK, it's the same everywhere on the pitch and until we start focussing on upgrading the first XI as a priority (obvs with one eye on youth) we will continue to bump along. We'll see at the end of the Summer but even with a spend I predict of over £100m, I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see the same XI that started 23/24 starting in August, with maybe one exception of right win. Maybe.
That's an opinion and a possibility, but it doesn't stack up from 1st July mate. The enormous commercial improvement, excess (85%) allowable losses due to non-Europe (cheers Eddie), a load of players dropping off, the excessive initial spending dropping off, etc., means we should be in a position to 'spend' £120-150m (or £20-30m amoritised). We are in a position where we lack in several areas: GK - one of the needed quality (including Trafford) RB - one (Livramento, Trippier looks done to me) RCB - barely one (Schar) LCB - two-ish (Botman fine, Burn's just too slow) LB - two-ish (Kelly's just Targett mk.2, Hall's got potential) CDM - one (Bruno) RCM - two-ish (Tonali's fine, Longstaff's pish) LCM - two (Joelinton, Willock) RW - one-ish (Murphy is a trier, but ultimately is pish). CF - two-ish (Isak fine, Wilson past it/injured) LW - two (Gordon fine, Barnes just about) There's elements of youth but not a lot - A.Murphy, White, Miley, Minteh, Harrison all u-20, then the positionless Anderson. We need to be getting rid of Targett if we're signing Kelly - you'd hope this was already sorted - as well as Krafth, Almiron, Dubravka as a minimum. The issue is easily seen at CF - Howe wants Wilson to stay. He wants to bring in a kid. The lessons from this season aren't being learned - when Isak was injured, Wilson wasn't there and we all know Howe wouldn't play youth and Gordon would shift across!! The answer is get rid of Wilson and bring in someone young but capable, to rotate, rest Isak, play with Isak, etc. We should go for it this Summer and start next season with a heavily reduced squad: GK - Marma/Pope RB - Livra/Trippier RCB - Huijsen/Schar LCB - Botman/Burn LB - Hall/Kelly* CDM - Bruno/Ndidi RCM - Tonali/Anderson* LCM - Joe*/Joe RW - Inaki Williams (or Soule, Raphinha)/Murphy CF - Isak/Dallinga (or Beier) LW - Gordon*/Barnes Youth cover - A.Murphy, L. Miley, J. White, Y.Minteh Sell - Almiron, Targett, Wilson, Longstaff, Dubravka, Krafth. You'd get around £60m inbound, and the cost of the players listed would be around £120m or so. I can't fathom how that's not affordable.
