Unemployment rate now at it's highest for 2 and a half years according to the ONS -

If they employed and trained more asylum application personnel rather than pursuing the non-sensical, incredibly costly, Rwanda scheme, they could kill two birds - plus how's about staffing the NHS and police properly?

    - oh but wait - if instead we put a whole generation of teenagers on national service we can claim that Unemployment has dropped dramatically... a cunning plan indeed.

Table 1 shows that Council Tax rates in Scotland are lower than in both England and Wales, however this paper will explain why direct comparisons should be treated with caution[1]. Approaches to Council Tax are different across the nations so full coherence will not be possible, but this document aims to ensure that any differences are clearly stated and can be understood.

    https://www.gov.scot/publications/council-tax-rates-comparing-scotland-to-other-uk-nations/

    Conclusion

Calculations of Council Tax are more complex in both England (with Adult Social Care and Parish precepts) and in Wales (with County Council, Community council and Police Authority elements) - explanation is provided in their statistical publications. Hence, where comparisons of Council Tax rates in Scotland are made to those in England and Wales, we advise that these are in line with the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) guidance on intelligent transparency. This advises that where comparisons are made publicly, they should, as a minimum, include the provision of adequate context to explain the relevant differences and divergences in policy so as to inform an intelligent interpretation of the figures. This would aid users’ understanding and prevent misinterpretation.

Therefore, to aid users understanding and minimise the risk of misleading comparisons, the following lines should accompany any comparisons of Scotland’s Council Tax rates to those of England and Wales:

“Approaches to Council Tax differ across the nations, so full coherence is not possible and caution should be taken when making statistical comparisons. Property prices differ across the nations and have diverged since the 1991 valuations. The Council Tax bill in England contains additional elements, and special factors are taken into account when setting Council Tax levels. Properties in Wales have undergone a more recent revaluation than the other nations, and there will usually be other authorities levying Council Tax in addition to local councils. These are all factors which are likely to affect comparability in the statistics.”

The net results of this are that we pay less council tax in Scotland. Which is the point that matters. In my case I am at least £750 pounds a month better off in Scotland. Although I do need to spend more on fuel and diesel because I live in a remote village.
Both England and Scotland get a diet of bullshit from the media and everyone should keep that in mind. brb's approach is exactly right you do need to look beyond the TV and newspapers and worst of all facebook.

Another reason why Scotland can't go independent tbh.

Massive welfare state which causes uncontrollable debt and would be defaulted on without Englands generous support

    Good point well made Spurf

Tories money going out, according to their maifesto, when broken down, shows £10.3B being cut in NIC <laugh>

    That's excluding self employed.

So where is that £10B coming from....have a guess....Welfare reform!

Quick & dirty overview of Conservative manifesto figs Essentially: £17bn of tax cuts by final year of forecast (29/30) And £800m of extra spending (new spending bigger than that but it’s paid for via further dept cuts) All paid for by £18bn of welfare cuts & avoidance measures

Some individual seat betting now available which I always think is a more useful gauge than a small constituency poll. Ignoring that the book % is awful they’re saying Farage is pretty nailed on. A bit surprised Labour are such long odds.

Labour’s candidate is Jovian Owusu-Naipaul. If that doesn’t count against him, having a Masters from Cambridge probably will.

The markets think Farage is home and hosed, but they could easily be wrong imo. Maybe Sir Digby Chicken-Caesar can hold on for the Tories

I would like to point out that everything they say in the manifestos is pure lies therefore not worth discussing.

Personally I think the act of throwing objects at politicians is the most interesting thing going on right now.

What a ****ed up world we live in where the people in charge allow the rich to swerve £119bn of Tax every year and pay out nearly £5bn each year in subsides to Oil companies who make around £30bn annual profit

He's doing my fooking head in, he knows he's getting slaughtered in the polls, yet funds tax cuts (NIC) that will mount to a shortfall in his budget by £12.5B, it's actually more than that but that's the NIC figure alone. Instead of going after companies as you have highligted, he goes after welfare. While Farage is getting stuff lobbed at him, this prick don't get so much as an egg.

Edit: and he (Rishi) had the cheek to take the piss out of Labour over tax rises.
