I’d have rather kept Liam and kept building. I can see why Acun decided to get rid, but I thought it was a shame. Time will tell whether it will turn out to be the right decision or not. Liam seems a decent bloke, good luck to him whenever he goes (apart from when he’s against us of course when he’ll be the Antichrist and I’ll wish him no goodwill!)
As with any manager, it doesn’t matter what they do, what they achieve, who they pick, how they play etc etc etc, there will always be a number of self appointed “expert fans” who know better than they do. Taking Fulchester United FC to the Champions League final despite selling star player Billy the Fish to rivals Grimthorpe City on Football Manager or Championship Manager, now means you hold the position of expert football manager, pundit & stat analyst with a louder voice & authority than those who just lower themselves to simply watching the team play. If he comes, support him. It’s how football works. I’m sure he’ll be an improvement on the recent managers you’ve had. He was for us.
This 100%. If you have players comfortable on the ball, with the ability to get it forwards relatively quickly, you’ll be amazed. If not you may have just received the emperors new clothes .
Evening mate. if you're referring to Mick Beal, that was a small amount of fans that weren't happy with the appointment. Beale came out of nowhere and got the job. He followed much loved Mowbray and that wasn't his fault, he applied and got the job. However it seems the ownership at Sunderland have a very strict criteria when it comes to appointments. Ie, can't bring your own backroom staff or assistant, seemingly no say in signings etc. Going back a few managers/coaches, Alex Neil, well liked by the fans, stayed behind after an away defeat to Stoke.... to discuss the Stoke Job. Mowbray, well liked by the fans, left the club in circumstances know one knows but the very next game, the match programme was all about Tomy and thanking him for his times here. Even before that, Lee Johnson was liked by the fans but lost his job because of poor results etc. In recent memory, Beale is the only manager that some of the fans weren't really set on.His reputation at Rangers wasn't the best, and when QPR gave him a chance of first team management, he took and interview at Wolves and left them for Rangers. Ofcourse he has the right to do that.
I will stick up for Liam Rosenior. Personally I thought we played some of the best possesion football I have seen since the days of Tom Huddleson last season. The first half at Southampton away when we could and should have gone in five nil up at half time, instead of just two, was the best away display I have seen from City since perhaps that night at Hillsbourgh when we blew Wednesday away. Perhaps Rosy did underachieve last season and certainly our home form cost us dearly because we should have been in a Play off position with ten points to spare. Losing Liam Delap in January to injury was a huge factor in that.......if only? But for me, I enjoyed last season and we were in with a shout of a Play Off place right up to the last game of the season. The narrow margin ( one place, couple of points etc) in which City lost out last season sound like the very same reasons Acun has chosen Tim Walters for our new manager, which does seem odd? Then again, I can see why Acun wanted a change, Rosy did have an abundance of talent to chose from, perhaps too many? Shades of Nigel Adkins who did seriously underachieve with a very talented squad of players? I didn't agree with Roseniors sacking either, as I didn't when Don Robinson spit his dummy out and sacked Brian Horton, two very similar dismissals in my opinion. So given time Rosenior could be a god send to a club like Sunderland, providing there is cash available for the type of players he likes and I could see at least a couple from City joining him if he does get the job. I wouldn't have sacked him and wish him well where ever he ends up, because he will land a top job one day.
The majority of the fans liked him cos he was an ex player....but his style of play especially at home was horrendous to watch, ive never been so bored. I know you lot like leaving the sol early when things aren't going well....you'll be leaving before ht with him in charge...you've been warned!!!
He’ll bring stability, but with your current track record of signing players, id expect a lot of mistakes early doors given how young the side you have is. He’s part of a current crop of young English gaffers who are all trying to “play the right way”. I think it’s a load of bollocks personally. You should’ve kept Mowbray IMO. There really is no evidence to suggest that this is the way forward for championship clubs, but all teams are doing it now and it’s making the league stale
Talks a great game, he’s a great salesman. Manages to convince some people they’ve seen what he tells them they’ve seen. Decided to play games without a striker at home whilst chasing the playoffs. Shame it didn’t work out as he has a connection with the club and I hope he’s learnt from his experience and becomes a better manager with Sunderland d or whoever he manages in the future
Think a lot depends when he looks back at his time here , how much he has learnt from the experience. Our home form was poor which got better towards the end when we were chasing the top six. If I was him I would be thinking why didn’t I have a go much earlier. I still think if Delap hadn’t got injured we would have made the top six.
Fine margins. You only need to look at the Norwich games home and away. Robbed away and the less said about the home game when Norwich should have had 2 players sent off. Those 2 results against the team that finished in 6th and us in 7th, could have changed the end of season outcome.
Mowbray is the elder-statesman of playing the right way. Harshly treated at Blackburn and Sunderland. But if you're wanting a next best thing, up and comer you could do worse than Rosey. A lot worse. Ask Plymouth in about 6 months.
Since NYD out home form read .... D L W L D D D D L D W D It was shocking, and along with the lack of excitement, cost him his job here.
Any Sunderland fan reading this thread is going to end up with a very distorted view of the actual opinion of most City fans. It's mainly posts from the detractors, who were definitely in the minority and pretty much nobody was expecting him to be sacked.
