Weird the French system, I won't even pretend to understand it.

As far as I'm aware, Macron isn't actually putting himself on the line with a snap election, just his MPs.

They have no choice, it's his last term. He can't run again.

It will be Le Pen next it seems.

I honestly didn't think he would ever go, I thought he'd reached like Angela Merkel status - but I forget about the 3 term thing. Id rather the shhite I know than the one I don't. Long as Le Pen don't start causing trouble, we've already got one raving lunatic in Europe, not sure we could handle another.

I saw that on SKY, it went on like that for ages, so that's not even the worst of the interview. I quite like watching the guy doing the interview, very knowledgeable.

Yeh he's usually pretty good. One of 2 or 3 on Sky. I'm also finding ITN (which rarely gets mentioned) and Channel 4 are doing some of the best interviews in this election.

But it's just the pigheaded stupidity of the bloke being interviewed. And then the dickhead in the background arguing you can't ask this or that question. Fck off!

It's 2 terms so it's all very similar to the US system

Macron and his party aren't particularly popular, but he had a very easy election last time as the National Rally were still looked at as not a serious political force.

Since then Le Pen has reorganized the entire party, they're a really serious political force now. I think they can quite easily win both this parliamentary election and the presidential in 3 years.

I don’t think they’ll win the Presidency, nor have a majority in Parliament. You are underestimating how many people in France are strongly opposed to the far right, even if they are disillusioned with the main parties. They will eventually unite behind whatever candidate opposes them, like they did twice with Macron - who is universally despised, btw; don’t underestimate that either.

The French hate their government, it’s a long tradition, but there is no prospect, thank God, of a majority electing a fascist. You can’t judge by elections to European Parliament, those are often a protest vote, as they were here - even Farage got himself elected to the European Parliament (not convinced yet by any means that he’s getting elected to Westminster either btw).

    Good point.

However, my Mrs is French, I was there recently, and I hear about this **** all the time. This is a country which decapitated it’s entire aristocracy in the 19th Century; they don’t think like us, but they will never lean majority fascist. They’re not Germany or Italy, in fact they distrust Germans and Italians far more than they distrust us Brits. It’s true they are ****ing angry right now, but when were they ever not?

    Ps I like the French.
