Good Morning. It's Friday 7th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road. Spurs activation clause could cost Leeds dear Any hopes that Leeds would sign Joe Rodon on the cheap this Summer have been dashed, after it was revealed that Spurs have activated a clause in the Welshman's contract, extending it for another twelve months (until the Summer of 2026). The North London outfit still plan to offload him, but can now demand in the region of £20m, double what the Whites expected to pay for the 26yo. He was one of only two Leeds players to break the 5000 minute barrier last season (Ampadu being the other). Rodon had to have pain killing injections towards the end of the campaign to keep him going, such was his importance to the side. Is Rodon worth £20m? Can Leeds afford it. Would he spend another season in the Championship? please log in to view this image Clarke Hammer blow Leeds look set to miss out on a Jack Clarke reunion after it was revealed that West Ham are preparing a big money move for the 23yo. The former Whites academy player netted 15 times, and provided 4 assists for Sunderland last season, even though he missed six weeks of the season with an ankle ligament problem. It was hoped that Leeds would bring him back to Elland Road this Summer, sell Crysencio Summerville and still have money left over to make a sizeable dent into the £190m debt Leeds have. It is quite feasible that Leeds may have to part with Summerville, Rutter, Harrison, Gnonto and possibly even Gray, in order to raise enough Capital to keep the club on the right side of financial fair play and rebuild a side capable of automatic promotion. Although West Ham are firm favourites for Clarke's signature, Southampton and Bournemouth are also monitoring the situation carefully. please log in to view this image
Another fire sale eh.....well we have form in that, in fact we are jolly good at being **** run... nothing to see here
Levy too smart for Marathe. Did Rodon have to accept the extension, hence not interested in staying at Leeds? Reward for failure.
Do we not think that the RB investment / shirt deal might prevent us having to sell so many of our better players other than if they want to leave of course?
Ell I am presuming you are including the Welsh international games when you say played over 5000 minutes
As I said in my response to WJ the other day about PSR etc, we need to raise approx. £90m in the next 12 months to stay within profit and sustainability (this is just on my calculations and thus cannot be taken in stone, Obviously depending upon the level of sponsorship/investment Red Bull have made, then that figure would be reduced. I think I went with a guestimate of £30m, meaning we need to raise approx. £60m from some other means, including player sales. Gessa said afterwards that he had heard/it had been rumoured that the deal was £16m per year for 3 years, so then it again depends on whether sponsorship money has to be apportioned over the length of the contract, or whether it is like when you sell a player, where for PSR purposes the full sale price is used to reduce the liability. All of the above is just opinion of course from my attempts of trying to understand the audited accounts of the club
Anyone know if we have been paid full for Rafa who went to Barca? I know it was instalments just never heard nowt more.
I would suggest that not hearing anything further is probably good news, as that probably means we have received the instalment payments as they have fallen due.
Morning all. Interesting point this re rodon https://x.com/berencross/status/1798767739030655155?s=46&t=xSZiK2Vhq9NQTsfPGBk7mQ
He can have £2m rising to £8m if we are promoted. He might sort us out with some decent loans to ensure he gets his extra cash
It happened to Villa with Mings, surplus to requirements, Bournemouth wanting a reported £8-10m, had a great half season on loan, they ended up paying nearer £30m. I like Rodon but he's not a £20m player, even at todays inflated fees.
Giving the club the option to extend the players contract by 12 months is a great clause to have. I've seen other clubs have it, but never Leeds!!!!
I guess it could work or you could have a disgruntled player on your hands for 12 months running down their contract. Why would anyone pay £20 million for him when he can go on a free next year?
Afternoon all I thought that as well when I saw Spurs had offered Rodon an extension. They're gonna try and bleed us dry. Btw retain list is out. Ayling, Poveda and Dallas are the only names worth mentioning to be leaving. They're discussing new contracts with Shacks and Coops.
Surprised we’re offering all three a new contract. Can’t see Cooper or Drameh wanting to sign for little or no game time. Also feel, with all due respect, that after all this time we’ll still be relying on Cooper.
