I think so too. Having watched the goals from the Uruguay game, I'd say that he has a sweet spot which isn't exploited when he plays for us.
Under klopp we have seen gakpo have a few tap ins like other but mostly we do not corss to that area unless behind lol. There's no bodies to corss to. Cut backs sometimes yes but most of the time nunez has been hammering efforts at point blank range and getting unlucky or doing 1 on 1s. He only scored 1 header did he this year?
He's staying with the squad until after the next friendly so presumably that's a good sign for the future, albeit it probably won't be Southgate after the Euros.
The squad looks top heavy and and reiant on a few gambles at the back. He needs to get this front 6 right and stick to it and really its lb and lcb to solve unless he ****s the whole thing up
I know second guessing Klopp is frowned upon but... maybe, just maybe, it's Klopp's fault regarding Nunez. I'm not sure if he plays wider for Uruguay than us, having not seen the Uruguay games, but for us, he always scored more and got more assists when he was playing wider but Klopp always played him directly down the middle. I think he has a more natural idea of where offside starts from out wide too.
I'm certainly hoping that Klopp - as much as we all love him - didn't quite know how to get the best out of Nunez and Arne might be able to get him to Slot in better. I could never make my mind up about his best position. His recent Uruguay goals were close in so staying out wide isn't the complete answer to his goal-scoring, though he is effective out there in other ways. As for him knowing where offside starts, it's usually about a yard behind him, wherever he is.
I honestly think we have had a different style of play where the type of ball in can be quite different at times with us. Very often the early ball in is not available to our players and they don't look for it as nobody is in the box. We will try run behind and quite often that draws a central player into a channel outside a cb on either side and he's had a lot of chances in those areas. He is offside quite a lot on those through balls. However once it goes wide for us we never try to cross unless we are behind or whatever. We cut back out or try to play to feet and again the forward ends up pulling towards that winger to be an option. Imo our best plays are that early ball over the top or through the channel for a shot and then the cut back. That ball across the zone of most danger across the 6 yard box requires players to be in there and quite often our wingers are not actually at the far post and they come short or go to 10. The 9 is then either on their own or too deep. It'll be interesting to see what slot wants a striker to do and where he wants his wingers.
